Same problem with my local vw Skoda garage. I bought an approved used golf last year which has since had a service and no mention of cam belt. Mot time has come around and I get a call saying my cam belt is overdue for replacing. I ask when it should have been done, answer before they sold it to me. So when I bought it approved by vw it was in fact needing a cam belt replacement , when I had its minor service it was needed but not flagged up....... not convinced the myriad of checks that are done are of very much value if this isn’t one of them!!!
