I could probably do two bikes (with front wheels removed and a sheet of carpet) in my Fabia: I have done that in my wife's old Kia Carens. I can confirm a road bike and a Brompton in a Fabia though. The reason I prefer to keep my front wheel in place is that it has a dynohub. I can put in a quick-release skewer but I have to mess with the wiring too (which is not designed for frequent connect/disconnect operations).

I hadn't considered the extra height of the Yeti to carry the bike upright like this. The pictures are very helpful. Many thanks.

Many thanks for the information, very helpful. The answer is that it will fit with the seats out and the front passenger seat fully forward. I like the technical spec and the quirky looks of the Yeti but an Octavia estate (or even a Superb) may be slightly more practical for my specific purposes...

I am going to replace my Fabia hatchback with something which has more luggage capacity. When I go out cycling for the day, I can fit my road bike (adult size, 700C wheels) in the back with the seats down but only if I remove the front wheel. Will a road bike fit in a Yeti with the seats out (without removing the front wheel)? I have searched online but all I can find quoted is the luggage volume in litres which does not help very much.
