  1. Hi, Please see the attached photo... Does anyone know how the timing marks should look on the two meshing gears on the camsfafts (opposite end to the timing belt) - i.e. when the Camshaft sprocket is in the correct setting position & locked in place with the arrow pointed upwards ? Please note.... the photos show two different camshaft "units".........one of the photos show the original camshaft (still on the engine which no longer appears to time up correctly - is it possible one of the camshafts has rotated inside the meshing gears ? The other photo shows a new camshaft unit that has been purchased and the timing marks do not line up at all ? (Has this been manufactured incorrectly ???) Thanks for any help.
  2. Thankyou "Ecomat" and "seriesdriver", The car is now being rebuilt..... the damage was extensive.... 12 valves bent, so they have all been renewed, plus all the rocker arms etc..... the Head itself was ok, but has been skimmed and pressure tested ok. Unfortunately the Cam assembly is also damaged (though it looks fine), one of the two small cam meshing gears has rotated / moved alignment on its camshaft and it doesnt seem possible to readjust back to correct alignment...... so I am now trying to source one from somewhere cheaper than VW / Skoda...... any ideas ? (Part Number 04L.103.308.C V280) Any help gratefully received Andy
  3. Have I just been unlucky or are these engines fragile ? (I think my engine code is "DBKA" ?) I have recently bought a 2015 Greenline 3 with FSH showing 104k miles (bought in September 2020 with a 3 month warranty) It had a New Timing belt kit & water pump fitted at 102k miles. in January it came to a standstill on the motorway (mileage was then 109k)...... under the bonnet it had a diesel leak..... and a failed Auxiliary / serpentine belt...... the really bad news - the auxiliary belt has managed to get into the Timing belt and has jumped several teeth...... most valves / rocker arms damaged and the Camshaft Assembly Unit is also mullered (camshaft linking gears are bent ???) Have I just been unlucky ? or are these modern engines made of butter ? What is my best option to get it back on the road again ? (New / recon engine or repair ?) Thanks for any suggestions. Andy
