  1. Octavia 1.9Tdi 109k 04 about a mk1 1/2! The old gal is playing up or I'm being stitched which is please! Second time in a row, same garage, my service light is saying its time for another service after a year and 8k ! I know she's done 109k but service after 8k really! My driving hasn't changed good mix of mway and ordinary roads I have been doing 12 -14k per year and that service was every 2 yrs or so. So the only change is less mileage but same conditions. Having not had a diesel before and had the car from new 2004 service regular but I do not know if this is to be expected but a drop from 22k to 8k with no outward indications of any problems (shes never smoked and never missed a beat) is this normal for an older engine or should I just take her back and say plug her in and see what the problem is? or can they reset for annual when the car is variable on the computer??? if so they can reset it for another year and I'll go elsewhere and they will loose 4 cars that are in our household answers on a postcard..................no sorry here please )
  2. 1.9Tdi 2004 mk1.5 ! octavia (some parts off new some of old!) need to adjust the handbrake cant find any thing on here for good old rear drum brakes any help appreciated before I end up taking it to the garage thanks
  3. Just had the same on my 04 hatch! ordered in new one that started and would not stop! got a refund and at present have just put a rubber grommet for the time being, £80 for something I rarely use I will see what happens nearer winter! I have been told on the hatch it is a design fault washer goes thru the motor often leaks etc and rusts the motor mechanism rarely happens on estates as the rear window is almost vertical. removing and replacing isn't difficult if you go that route except the shaft of the motor is tapered so care must be taken when removing it through the glass! I loosened the nuts first so the unit was just being held in place shut the hatch removed the wiper arm put the nut back on the shaft sprayed with some plusgas to release it somewhat and left for 1 hr to soak, then carefully with hammer and drift tapped it till the seal broke! Heart thumping process to say the least!
  4. I recently had my brake light switch replaced via AA as had no brake lights, I have looked at most topics regarding this and I am wondering if the "pattern" part used to get me back on the road safely is causing the problem. My glow plug warning light is flashing it didn't do this straight away but is on all the time now ( I put a tank of decent diesel through just in case) The glow plugs were replaced at last service a few months ago. Is there any checks I can do first or do I need to get a genuine replacement for it to do the other jobs the forum mentions It is a bit confusing as if it did it straight after the service I would have taken the car back for them to sort 04 Octavia 1.9Tdi cheers
  5. Blimey still not clear as to when the cam belt needs changing, Just had my 04 1.9Tdi serviced and the garage said have you had the cam belt done couldn't tell you said I! seeing as tho they have serviced it the last 4 yrs! So he looked on the computer at the service intervals pre 2000 every 90K after 2002 90k again or 4 yrs so what about my 04 he puzzled it and said didn't no, and reading the posts I still dont know! It's a 105 bhp and runs fine and the belt looks Ok and besides it isn't exactly a very stressed engine either Soooooo! if it's 4 yrs oh feck cars 6 1/2 yrs old 73K but it looks fine If its 90K fine I'll get it done at MOT in September anyone know about the 2004 ones and why suddenly are newer cars not as reliable as pre 2000!!!!!!!!!
  6. Bought our Octavia Hatch 1.9Tdi March 2004 just before the new facelift, Sales man was friendly but a bit erratic and did tee me off a few times (count to ten etc.!) But beat them up from 200 quid for my old Peugeot 405 Est mreg to £750. then because they didn't have what we wanted colour wise we played their game re what was "on the shelf" we ended up with a "silverline" package Alloys met paint rear spoiler leather bits and bobs for a good price and a low HP package so all of us were happy. Problem wise I think the manager was the main pain, bit full of his own importance and a few silly **** ups that should of been sorted. Had to have the whole of the drivers door electrics replaced (rust!) No problems sorted with no hassle, Typical loss of clutch pressure (standard to VW according to AA) again new master cylinder no probs. 1st service at 26K reasonable but one of the service desk guys couldn't show enthusiasm with a bullet behind him! Would I buy again, dunno! I would certainly check out their prices but do not feel any loyalty to the dealership but the staff turn over can be high at dealerships and the way the commission is set up is usually the reason you cant get another rep to look after you because they don't benefit
  7. Have the 90Bhp 1.9Tdi Oct Hatch 04 and fitted a "Plug and Play" direct from Germany TUV approved
  8. Hi all New to this forum but was interested in the fuel figures I do a 24 mile round trip in rush hour mostly Mway and mostly nose to tale (M27) I fitted a plug in chip from Germany pushing BHP upto about 115-120 ish (tweeked it a bit!) and regualry return 53mpg I also tow a caravan which saw the biggest difference 90bhp 28-30 mpg fully loaded lots of gearbox stirring with chip 38mpg ave. in this country. Last year 425 mile trip in France 42mpg! So buying with my wallet this time certainly is paying off also I too usually use Tesco's but might try shell next long trip The engine had done best part of 10k before real fuel savings were showing now done 39K what I did find though is that it doesn't run to well on Petrol Doh! and that was after owning it for 2 1/2 years double Doh! And it had just been filled to the brim for a 300 mile round trip that hurt almost more than the cost at midnight!!!!!
