  1. So most importantly will this fit the automatic gear box from the Bky? I bought a manual bky and the gear box didn't fit due to the block being cast differently.
  2. Thank you for the info. What can i do to get around this?
  3. Worth a punt i suppose. Out of interest, do you know the differences between the Bky and Bby?
  4. I will have to enquire if it comes with the engine ECU. My BKY does have and EGR. So as long as the BBY that im buying comes with the engine ECU I should be fine?
  5. We already have the engine out. We had a replacement engine but that was the manual bky. I didn't realise the blocks are different with the manual and auto. As the engine is already out i'm thinking it's easier to just chuck a running engine in. The auto variant of the BKY seems to be like rocking horse **** though. If another engine code works and all i have to do is swap over the sensors then happy days. I have found a auto bby so if anyone knows if that will work ideal?
  6. Hello all, I've been trying to find an Auto Bky engine to swap in my fabia for sometime now and i'm having no luck. Will a Bby work? my main concern is the ECU side of things being compatible. Any info on this conversion would be much appreciated.
  7. Hello all, I'm looking to swap out the engine in a fabia. The engine code is BKY and its an auto. According to Wikipedia there is a lot of engine codes that are associated with the 1.4 16V (AHW, AXP, AKQ, APE, AUA, BCA, BBY, BKY) Whats my best option if i cant find like for like, and what extra work/ parts does this require? Any help of advice is much appreciated!
  8. Understood mate cheers for that. So this is more of a coincidence rather than a cause. Any other ideas to what can cause this tapping noise? Ive either checked or replaced most of the obviouse stuff now. I'm aware you said this is just a design flaw but I have plenty of time to investigate other possibilities. I've bought this car to fix and sell on. Originally thinking this would be a simple tappet replacement haha. Also it gives me a chance to improve on my mechanical skills. So I am more than happy to be digging around if there's any other possible causes?
  9. Yep, it's automatic. I'm hoping someone has a idea to where I can find a reference for bearing play? No doubt the swarf from this top notch work has caused some damage. Maybe even causing this tapping. The tapping Is far more obvious from undereath the car almost like its coming from the bottom end. Unsure is the sumps just acting like an echo chamber tho.
  10. I decided to whip the sump off last night. Things got very interesting to say the least! Have a look at the attached photos. When I first bought this car I had a flick through the service history. In there was a invoice for a thread repair on the sump. Turns out the ****ers left this lovely mess behind. Whilst I was down there I checked for play in the end bearings and piston head. There was a fair bit of side to side play on the big and small end. How ever I'm unsure of how much is okay, I can't seem to find any reference. There was no other play in any direction. Also on cylinders 2,3 and 4 there was noticeably more movement from the piston head.
  11. When I pulled the spark plugs I noticed a difference between cylinders. 1,2, and 3 looked the same but cylinder 4 looks 'wet' and gummy. It's not coolant, and combustion is definitely happening. Any idea what can be cause this and if its linked? The 2 marks in the photo of cylinder 3 are from a screw driver.
  12. Understood, but the tappets and rockers have all been replaced. I've had the cam housing off three times now so I'm trying to explore other options before taking it off again. Is it common to receive faulty new tappets?
  13. The oils been changed and the noise remains when the engine is warm
  14. It's a petrol 1.4 bky. The cambelt was changed 11k ago and I've had it off twice now to work on the top end. I've inspected the cams and they look fine. The engine has had regular servicing and is only on 52k
  15. Ended up replacing the rockers and the tapping still remains. I have done a compression test and that was fine. My next thought is to remove the sump and check the bottom end. I'm still convinced it's the top end tho, but I'm running out of ideas haha. Any suggestions on what else could be causing that noise?
  16. Oil pressure is fine. Galleries look clear. I've found a rocker that doesn't clip very well onto the tappet. The clip itself is loose compared to others. Going to swap rockers around and see off the tapping moves form one side to the other.
  17. Could find an exhaust leak. I went ahead and replaced the hydraulic lifters. For the first few minutes after the initial start up the tapping had gone but it eventually came back. I'm still not convinced it's piston slap as the sound is more like ticking and a higher pitch. The video makes it sound deeper than it is in person. Im wonder if there's a oil feed issue to the lifters themselves?
  18. I hadn't considered that. The car has only done 55k miles. Piston slap from that kind of mileage seems a touch extreme. Ill have a poke around the exhaust manifold and report back.
  19. Hello all, need some help diagnosing this noise. Sounds a bit deep do be tappets but i'm not 100% sure. Any suggestions? video-1616055089.mp4
