  1. I have just had a word with Yeomans, Exeter. They want £100 to read the codes. As I have scanned using a Snap On reader, I told them the codes and description. Within 3 seconds, the service lady said "Ah, that will be a new EGR valve. £1600" "Thank you Yeomans, and goodbye." Again, a request for a recommended Skoda independent in Somerset or Devon, please.
  2. Thanks again. Time constraints mean I have to get the car sorted at a garage. Does anyone know a good independent in Devon or Somerset please ? Car needs a general service and check in addition to the PCode resolutions, plus MOT due beginning of March.
  3. Ok, that sounds like progress and good advice. Are these the best VCDS people please ? VCDS Diagnostic Tools | Ross-Tech Solutions for Your Vehicle | by V-Tech (vcdsdiagnostics.co.uk)
  4. I have an engine symbol warning on my 1.2 diesel greenline. TDI-CR (CFWA) It has two components, and the local garage (not a Skoda specialist but a Peugeot one) has twice switched the light off but within 24 hours it has returned. Details: "15536 -P0405 EGR temperature sensor (G98) Sig too low" AND "15916 - P0671 Cylinder 1 Glow plug circuit (Q10) - electrical fault" Is there anything I can do with modest DIY skills, or is this a Skoda garage job, and is so what is the likely cost please ? I have never dealt with P codes before. thanks
  5. Wow ! Thanks everyone for the techy information. As luck happens, I now have access to a small domestic garage with a flat floor, so later today I shall go down the empirical "try it and see if it fits" route. Still bemused by a Skoda dealer who can sell a used vehicle with a spare wheel and tyre socket lever that does not match the road wheels ! It could have landed me in trouble with the fuzz if I had a puncture. All being sorted, including a new extending tyre lever with a socket to match the alloy wheel nuts and now to buy a matching alloy wheel and spare tyre... Ebay here I come.. One lives and learns about the importance of small details.
  6. That would indeed be the best answer but I am trying to avoid moving the car off the sloping drive, and onto the road in order to take a wheel off and put it in the boot space, and then replace it. Best part of 45 minutes work...
  7. I don't have a spare 15 inch alloy wheel, so does anyone know if one would fit into the space in the boot, please ? Somehow my new-to-me Fabia has had 15 inch alloys with 185 65 tyres fitted in the past, and I have just discovered there's a 14 inch steel with 185 60 rubber on it. 😞 thanks
  8. Great, thanks. With the larger tyre footprint, do you reduce the tyre pressure ? If so, what figures please ?
  9. Wow, speedy stuff, many thanks. I have the red outer cover OK but the interior support frame and mirror are furbarred. I will try the suppliers before trawling ebay. thanks again
  10. I scraped the LHS mirror, and need another one. I have moderate car skills, but not got the Haynes manual. Is it relatively straightforward, if slow, please ?
  11. Thanks everyone. I am going to do a dry run next week, and fit bigger ones for a day or two. And see what happens With greater hysteresis , I would expect a bit more understeer.
  12. What's the basis for your comment please ? The clearances shown on the wheel size website indicate little change from the standard tyres, and there are no significant warnings about interference with the body work or other moving p arts .
  13. I have the 1.2 diesel Greenline estate. And an almost new set of Goodyear winter tyres from my Golf. Tyres 195/65/15 Rims 6J x 15H2 with ET 38 The wheel size website doesn't say NOT to fit them, and the clearances look ok. Rim & Tire Size Calculator. Custom Offsets - Wheel-Size.com Rolling radius is the only obvious change, with a reduction in revs per mile from 850 to 807. Does anyone have any views on negative benefits from the possible change please ? TIA
