  1. thanks guys, i just learned how to do an oil and filter change and plugs etc, so it might be a bit beyond me just yet, but will have a look. thanks
  2. hi kenONeill, thanks for the reply, was looking for some reassurance that the work didnt need done immediately. i'm not mechanically minded but i had a feeling that the cv joint might eventually need replaced if the boot doesnt get done. could do without the extra cost right now, as the wifes car needs a clutch and has a starting problem which we need to sort. we are on holiday in 3 weeks and need one of them to be working, lol:)
  3. hi everyone, put my felicia estate in to garage this morning as there was some play in n/s/f wheel. garage just phoned and said they have tightened the wheel bearing, the ball joint has a little play in it and a cv boot has a small tear. they say ball joint nothing to worry about just yet! cv boot ( i think it's the cv boot) nothing to worry about just yet, plus they would have to remove a shaft or something to replace this. would you folks agree with this, no rush to get these things replaced or would you get the work done now. thanks robert
  4. ok thanks for the reply, will get that done and hopefully it will make a difference.
  5. hi all, i find the brakes on my felicia quite soft, thought it might just have been the difference from switching from one car to another. the car was in the garage last week and the mechanic commented on this too, and suggested getting the brakes bled. my question is are the brakes on the felicia soft or is there something i need to do to getr better performance from them. tia
  6. hi seems you were right ken, got a call from the garage this morning saying that they hadn't actually taken the wheel off yesterday and assumed it was the wishbone, on taking the wheel off it was then seen to be the bolt that had almost sheared through. all sorted now cheers robert
  7. hi, eventually got round to getting car to the garage, turns out it was a wishbone, had popped right out (whatever that means) said the mechanic. only bought the car a few weeks ago for 300 and asked the garage to give it a going over today while it was in. dreaded the outcome, but apart from the wishbone everythings fine.
  8. hi guys, haven't got the ball joint done yet, will get it in to the garage next week. would do it myself if i knew how, but my mechanic skills are very limited. is it best to get both sides done at the same or just the side that's gone.
  9. the wife says :irked: , lol. thanks for that bit of advice, will check that later.
  10. hi wife was diving the car tonight and noticed that when it hits a bump or dip on the road there is a cluncking noise coming from the front wheel area. is she right in thinking this could be the wheel bearing. thanks, robert
  11. ok, thanks for the advice guys. i'm not at all clued up on mechanics bu hope to learn an do some or most of it myself, learning from a mate who tinkers with his cars a lot, and i'm sure i'll learn a lot from you guys as well.
  12. hi, i have just become the first time owner of a skoda, a 1998 s reg felicia estate, with only 31,000 on the clock, 9 months tax and 9 months mot the car took a bit of cleaning inside and the front seats have a few marks, seat covers will solve that problem. other than this the car is great. what i find strange is that without even putting the key in the ignition the radio and lights and cigarette lighter work, is this normal i a skoda. thanks robert
