  1. My buddy is a mechanic and I'll be taking the car to him in a couple weeks for a service so will ask him to look into this and let you know if he finds anything different.
  2. I have a 2010 VRS and have the exact same thing so would be interested to see if anyone knows what this is. I first noticed it when I was sat idle and revved the engine, after taking my foot off the gas I could hear the noise.
  3. Yes the build date of the replacement engine is 1.07.15. From that alone is it possible to tell which parts would have been used? Thanks very much for that info Streetfighter, I'll be sure to check the intake manifolds when I go to look. How long have you had your vRS for? Have you been happy with it overall?
  4. When you say a "bad one fixed and now good" does this generally mean that as long as the tensioner issues are addressed that the car is generally 'good'? I'm going to view a 2010 vRS that had an engine replacement in 2015 and the new engine has 40k on it. With the revised tensioners is this car as reliable as any other in the sense that nothing can be guaranteed but there aren't any other glaring issues that make it a bad purchase?
  5. Apologies for bumping this old thread but looking for some clarity. I'm on the verge of purchasing a 2010 FL VRS which had a new engine put in during August 2015 and this was done by Skoda under warranty. Would I be right in assuming that at this time it would have been done with the revised tensioners and so no need to worry?
  6. Hi all! So my beloved '05 Golf GT TDI is getting close to biting the dust after amassing nearly 200k miles. I'm looking for my next car and I've always loved the Octavia VRS - I love the way they look, the size of them (more "family friendly" than my 3-door golf) but I like that they still have that real kick that will make it fun to drive. I can realistically afford between 3.5k-4.5k right now. Which leaves my options to VRS' around the 2009-2012 mark and generally all with over 100k on the clock. I'm more than happy with this as long as it is still good value for money. My question is - how many miles can you expect to get from a VRS? I drive around 8000 miles a year and would he happy if I got a good 4 or 5 years out of my next car. Is that realistic? Are there any common problems/faults beyond timing chains and clutches that I should be aware of once you're getting over 100k on the clock that may be expensive to repair? Basically any advice people can give as to the longevity of the Mk2 VRS would be great and if they think that price for that year and mileage would still be a good deal. As I side, I'm likely looking at petrol over diesel too. Unless anyone has any pros and cons for either that they feel are particularly relevant? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
