  1. Thanks all very much for your responses. The ideas of it being a memory issue seems to make sense as it does need to be rebooted after every start. Everytime I sit in the car it has to be rebooted! I would much prefer if it was an amplifier problem and I guess the only way to sort that is by opening up and having a look. I find it odd that the dealer won't even bother to look inside the unit. Just 3k and that's it. Pab567-have you seen this memory issue with any Columbus models? Thanks, Niall
  2. Hi to all! I am very new here and would like to get your expert opinions on a certain topic. So in my Octavia 2014, I have a Columbus MIB1 5E003502OB. There has been an issue with the sound on the device i.e. there is none. All other notifications work as normal. Latest software update did not solve the issue. The odd thing is when I click on update and press on update through sd card (although there is none inserted) the sound then bursts to life again, albeit with some sporadic hissing. I have been in touch with a mechanic who has said he has seen it before. He says it is an electrical internal memory fault where it is unable to boot and use the software properly. Therefore a new unit is needed (just radio unit) So the local Skoda garage here are quoting a price of 3000 euros for this replacement and my queries are the following. From your experience, have you come across this issue and is the solution proposed my the mechanic above plausible? I have found some used radio units online but none that have the same serial number as the one mentioned above. There is a very similar model with serial number 5EO919606. Would this unit be then compatible with the dvd/cd unit in the glove compartment? If I was then to buy this unit (if it were compatible) would a local Skoda garage be willing to program this or could I do it myself? All in all it could be the difference between 3 grand and 200 euros! Any clarity would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Niall
