  1. I got offered £1300 trade in for mine and nothing off the car I was looking at as I was "trading in" or as I put it "getting shafted twice" :p Quite pleased as it is the only reason that I still have it, that was 6 months ago now and I haven't test driven anything else since. If I do trade my one in or auction it I won't be going out of my way to tell them that it has been remapped but will give them my folder of receipts when I drop it off which contains the Revo invoice :p
  2. I've heard good things about Atera. I have a set for our Punto in the garage but not even opened the box yet I can recommend this site to get them from - http://www.roofbox.co.uk/roof-bars/ I bought Cruz bars for mine as I was on a budget and also needed two bike carriers at the same time. The Cruz ones have been used probably hundreds of times now. During the summer they go on at least twice a week and are still going strong. Very good for the price BUT I've lost all of the plastic covers now (retaining clips snap) and the fixing bolts are cream crackered, the mounts themselves are starting to show wear as well. Basically after a few years they are ready for the bin but you pays your money and takes your choice as they say :p
  3. Of the bits I've done to the car I would say rear anti roll bar followed by remap are the most effective mods.
  4. Dox, I'll check that the garage has done all of your suggestions thanks. It does seem to do it under any combination of electrics being switched on and anything mechanical- belts, tensioners, pulleys etc. are all fine. Well this morning just to satisfy my own curiosity I unplugged the secondary air pump. First cold start... no issues, no voltage drop. It is way too early to start counting my chickens but it is a good start! EDIT- Forgot to say thanks to Rob Clubley for the PimpMySkoda guide as the pictures on there made it a piece of cake to locate the pump.
  5. Loom has been checked over as has every terminal, fuse, relay and anything else the garage could think of. Replacement battery was tried too, same problem. Yes when the lights dip the dash lights also dip. Basically something is causing it to intermittently lose 2V across the battery :wonder: There is a video in post 17 that shows the issue that I took one morning.
  6. Nope just on and off a random from cold for a couple of minutes :(
  7. Well despite the best efforts of the garage and around 10 hours of diagnostics spread over 4 days (the issue only occurs from cold so there is a big down time in between trying to sort it) the garage though that the issue was resolved. As soon as I fired the car up it started playing up again! I think they are more frustrated with it than I am! I'm going to try unplugging the secondary air pump myself and see if that helps but TBH I'm at a loss with it!
  8. I guess I'm just a bit bitter because my car seems to be able to spread the costs out just enough that I always think "Well, I've just spent £### on it I might as well keep it for a bit." Just as that feeling starts to ease off it breaks again and we repeat the cycle.
  9. I must retract my SDi comment to some degree. It turns out that the speedo in the rental that I have UNDER reads by 10% Therefore it is actually a bit quicker than I first envisaged.
  10. Not really much point to this thread but I often wonder about cars and their reputations. French cars and their dodgy electrics, Itallian cars and their fondness of rusting, the Germans and their build quality etc. etc. I buy into this and as such when I look for my next car anything French will probably be filed further down the pile and if I can afford something German then that will probably attract my eye but why? Day four of running around in a courtesy car while my Skoda is poked and prodded with minimal amounts of success at trying to find its latest little foible and I start thinking about my limited car history and how I found the brands... Car 1) 1990 Hyundai Pony - An early 90's Hyundai, it must have been a nightmare, right? Well... not really. I owned the thing for 4.5 years and the major problems with it stemmed from it being driven on salt covered roads and then laid up for over 18 months by the previous keeper (my Grandad). Its Mitsubishi sourced engine was still going strong, everything worked, in the end rust killed it off probably as a result of its time spent covered in salt in a damp garage as previously mentioned. Car 2) 1998 Peugeot 306 - French electrics and shoddy build quality? Well... No. Yes it did have an electrical fault where the heater would occasionally give you full heat or full cold but on the whole it was all there and all working fine. Sure the air con stopped working but I never looked into getting it fixed so a re-gas could have been all that was required. Mechanically it needed a rear brake cylinder and nothing else in 3 years and 54,000 miles. Very impressive as it didn't lead an easy life. Car 3) 2002 Skoda Octavia vRS - The newest, most expensive and lowest mileage car of the three from a group known for reliability and quality. Surely the best of the three? Well... No,it has been pretty crap when I look back. It has had both niggles and major mechanical faults to the extent where I can't even remember everything that has gone wrong. Electrically this is the second long and probably costly diagnosis it has had to go through, It is on its second replacement steering rack, second replacement spring, perished suspension bushes, lamda sensors, second replacement coolant sensor and other stuff that I've since erased from my mind. So what? Well, going back to my original point would I buy another Peugeot? Based on their reputation probably not yet my 306 was by far the best car I've owned. So surely I wouldn't buy another Skoda? Actually, yes I probably would. I guess the only conclusion I can make is that I'm just another sheep in the car buying flock.
  11. My first car had the indicators on the right (Hyundai Pony) and I'll agree it was far better but isn't really that big of a deal :p
  12. I think they would look great on a mk1. 5x100 is right but not sure on the offset. I'm sure someone can give a yay or nay though.
  13. Nope, I would stick with the paper filter. The stock setup doesn't leave the car breathless until you get to the realms of "stage 2" levels of tuning.
  14. I'd say avoid a panel filter. They gain you nothing and lose you filtration and ease of servicing. As for an exhaust, if you want raspy then I'd consider a Supersprint system (if you can find a UK supplier). I can highly recommend Piper, which is what I have, but it isn't really a raspy exhaust note. Brakes... OEM suit my needs fine but I've never been that hard on brakes. As for external cosmetics, on my one I had a LCR splitter (removed by a pile of horse ****!) and have dubmeister plates, Czech dealer surrounds, LED number plate lights and VRS wheel centre caps. All minor stuff but go too mad on a mk1 and I think they can easily look tragic.
  15. I have one the same as the Screwfix one but I bought it from Machine Mart. Does a fine job although I think I've only ever used it for spark plugs and wheel bolts I always copper slip threads, saves a whole lot of ball ache. Don't forget to do the mating surface of the hubs too
  16. Ah I know that feeling. My commute went from just over 5 miles to just over 50 miles a day (soon to be just over 60 miles) and I very nearly talked myself out of running my vRS. In truth its days are probably numbered now but I'm doing my best to put off saying goodbye to it :p The thing cost £4.3k to keep on the road last year, god knows what this years total will be Currently Excel is predicting £7.5k but it has been a heavy couple of months since the move (insurance, MOT etc.) so hopefully that will settle down a bit :S
  17. Probably... but I'm a hundred times more confident in it than I was in the K&N
  18. K&N caused a horrible induction drone on my car, coupled with the fact that when held up to the light you could see pin pricks of light shining through meant that I sold it on after a couple of thousand miles. Got a Pipercross now, much better but if I'm completely honest doesn't offer anything over a paper filter and means I have to clean the thing at service time rather than just bin it and replace.
  19. Mk1? If so why would you want to swap the smooth 1.8T for the 1.9 PD tractor engine when you do no mileage at all? or Mk2? Even in vRS form that is not a good looking car by any stretch. Seems silly to change for the sake of it. Why not keep hold of it until you can get the mk2 Octy that you want?
  20. I'd be pretty confident in saying that it was a "you're safe to pull back over" flash. Not really needed when you are in a car but I think some truckers just get in the habit of doing it when they see the overtaking vehicle indicate to pull back over.
