Bang whilst braking and smell of burning (Friday 13th fun!)
Local dealer called me back after having car for 4 days to try and find time to investigate it as nearest official slot was next month, Glow Plug #4 replaced to clear EML and awaiting authorisation from warranty to fix the other issue which was caused by the cap/cover on the alternator pulley coming off (the bang) and spreading oil/grease from it around all the belts (the burning smell). I assume they're going to change more than just the pulley/cap given theyre waiting for authorisation as the last time I had a scenario where it was with a warranty authorisation was like this was when our Freelander 2 rear main engine seal went back and ****ed oil into the clutch and gearbox requiring full replacement of both.

I've not had a chance to look it up, but I take it Cylinder 4 the closest to that side then given your comments? Skoda called back and apparently we took out extended warranty so at least theres that but they're already asking for tons of extra info so already wiggling out of it.

Bang whilst braking and smell of burning (Friday 13th fun!)
Wife called me whilst driving to report the above, pulled over and nothing obvious to her and was driveable so she drove it home. Brakes and pads were fine, took it for a drive myself and felt fine however upon lifting the bonnet there is a lot of oil spray around the serpentine belt area with an (almost comical) outline of a circle directly opposite the alternator pulley. The EML is on, but it was on before and the code was for Glow Plug Cylinder 4 fault which I was going to swap out tomorrow. No additional codes thrown since this. Looks like something has gone pop and sprayed oil/grease down there onto the belt which has then chucked it everywhere but couldn't find a single source for it. The oil/grease itself has a reddish/brown tinge to it rather than black. Called local Skoda garage and they cant guarantee to even see it until the 24th but said leave it with them next week sometime and they'll try and squeeze it in, of course this happens <3 months after the warranty expires!

Octavia Estate whine 45-50mph in gear
Hi all, First thread and have had a search around and found similar topics but none seemingly with a clear answer or the specifics of my issue, well my wife's issue technically, with our 66 plate Octavia Estate SE Business Greenline III 1.6TDI: When in 4th gear specifically, between 45 and 52mph there is a noticable "whine" that seems to come from the passenger side of the car At the same revs and/or speed in all other gears except 5th the noise is not present, its sort of there in 5th but very very faint Depressing the clutch makes the noise stop instantly Harshly accelerating through this speed range (e.g from 40->70) does not create the noise Gently accelerating in this range or being in the range with no throttle input the noise can be heard We've had the car since 50k miles about 18 months ago (on 60k now)and from memory it was there since we got it from a main dealer, it went back for other issues (electric windows stopped working) and mentioned it at time and was met with a not particularly helpful answer of "yeah they can do that, can be a lot of things" but as our daughter had just been born 3 months premature I didn't have time to press the issue. To me it hasnt got any worse nor has there been any driveability issues but my wife says its getting worse and she drives it a lot more than I so looking for hints on where to problem solve. Other threads mentioned: - Loose/cracked airbox, checked that and its fine - Gearbox oil, had major service by dealer before we picked up, unsure if that covered gearbox oil - Tyre wear, rear OS is at 3mm on MOT but seems weird to be that if it goes away with clutch? - Bearings? Thanks for reading
