  1. That's handy to know - so I guess an extra fine M20 Cleveloc is what I'm looking for - doesn't have to be necessarily from a car parts dealer
  2. Resolved anyway. With a long breaker bar, a foot and a bigger hammer
  3. So, the use-once front hub nut for my felly is no longer available apparently. Any straightforward replacement - maybe from a Polo or similar?
  4. Not done the heating route before so wondered if anyone could advise - would this sort of thing give the heat required? https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/sievert-228101x-jet-blowtorch/ I have a seriously stuck tie rod end. When I say seriously I mean it's NOT budging. The car had been sat for 3 years without moving - the other side came out with a struggle but one side is refusing. And yes, I have used a big hammer, and some big, stood up, full weight, full "golf club" clouts on the side of the knuckle. As well as trying the pickle fork, and the scissor type ball joint splitter - well, it bent the pivot in that, stripped the threads and I ended up having to drive the pin out of the ball joint splitter just to get the splitter off. So stripping out the grease from the joint and heating the knuckle up seems to be the next step Do these cheap canister type torches give enough sustained heat to warm it up enough to expand the knuckle?
  5. Thermostat in. Plus new radiator as that was crumbling - £26 new delivered. I'm remembering why I like these cars - so easy to fix... Like the blower motor... Easy to remove. £53 for a new one or just rip a spring out of a ball point pen and the brushes are making contact again That can go back in tomorrow... Next jobs: Fix the horn Oil & Filter change Air filter Check out suspect rear brake cylinder 4 tyres Then it'll be ready for MOT'ing where I expect A patch welding around one rear arch Gearbox mount looks suspect, expect to fail on that And the other usual stuff that seems to make an MOT cost £200 on average
  6. "Older models" I still consider the felly thoroughly modern But then this one was my first love. And my first head gasket swap...
  7. It's been a while since I registered here.... It's been a while since I started my Felly...I laid it up in June 2014 and I hadn't touched it until last night...it was looking tired and unloved (awwww....) Anyway 3 hours of graft later.... And what's more, after 3 years I charged the battery with an optimate charger, connected it up and she started instantly; as if she'd been running daily! I love these 1.3 lumps, they forgive so much! Okay, there's an overheating issue but those thermostats standing 3 years? Hopefully a simple fix
  8. Wondering how easy/complicated it is to swap the interiors, namely the seats and dash from my old tinworm-infested felly estate into the new more solid fav estate? I understand the dash is a straight swap - the instruments a little more awkward with some wiring alterations? Hoping the seats are a straight swap - any mods needed? I assume the door cards are different altogether? Any advice gladly appreciated
  9. Only of it up on the stands having the engine swapped.. I'll try to take some next week - it's locked up at work
  10. Free to good home - due to a bereavement I now have too many cars, too much to do and not enough time Car stored in Sheffield Carribean Green Solid(ish) bodywork - 1 welded patch above one front strut mount Poor door seals (slight whistle driving on m-way) Sunroof not sealing closed properly - minor rather than major leak Needs attenton to one or both driveshafts Brand New 3-piece Clutch - not done more than about 300 miles Needs new water pump/engine mount as rubber mount perished. Also, due to fitting wrong pump then having to re-fit old one, missed a bit of gasket so sealed with hylomar blue & radweld - will need mating surface cleaning thoroughly New middle exhaust box - fitted roaadside in rain so may need loosening & positional adjustment Brake pipes look like they need attention Recently fitted used engine of unknown mileage (sourced from breaker, from a carb model) Meant to do work to the car but due to unfortunate family circumstance, not got things finished, had to bodge a couple of things, drive to work, sorn and just leave there Guessing that repair at a garage would take £300 or more (far less for the DIY mechanic) since it is now out of tax and SORN, and hence would have to take to garage for further work, after which car is only worth the cost of repair. So better to offer it to someone who can make use of it. Enquiries by Private Mesage only please. I'm very busy with other things right now so may take a while to respond. It's not a bad bus - I had every intention of doing the work and running it as a daily driver but circumstances changed unfortunately APOLOGIES IF THIS BREAKS FORUM "FOR SALE" RULES BUT I DON'T WISH TO CONTRIBUTE £12 IN ORDER TO GIVE AWAY A CAR TO ANYONE WHO COULD MAKE USE OF IT FOR FREE I'd rather give it away on a skoda site than freecycle it for any old **** to ram-raid primark in
