AEE whining, mental health in danger!
JuiCCCe replied to JuiCCCe's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
Update and SOLUTION for this problem I started googling if this noise could be somehow related to oil pressure/filter/pump and i found this bimmer video, exactly the same singing: Then i found this Nissan topic: https://www.titantalk.com/threads/oil-filter-whining-wierd-noise.72829/ And after watching this i was sure its the filter, or to be more spesific its the bypass valve whining inside the filter: So i renewed the old MANN W 712/52 filter with new Filtron and the ******* noise is gone! No oil change this time as it is quite fresh and looked clean, no debris found inside the filter, no physical damage seen on filter. If you check the last video (1:10) the bypass valve reacts to oil flow and temp, so when my engine got warmed up the valve started acting and started to resonate(?) causing the whizzle. When rpm rises the oil pressure rises also a bit and effected on the sound slightly? In any case the conclusion is that the installed filter was a monday piece from the factory and i'm so happy i didn't let the service guys overhaul the engine for this! Took about three weeks finding the cause but now its gone, gone, gone! Thanks for your replies, i hope someone else finds this topic if similar noise issue is found. -

Fan speed checked (another good reason to have a cigarette break), no effect on this at any speed. Also just noticed that the sound don't start at once. When engine temp climbs to normal it fades in to "max level" in about 30 secs. Would guess some kind of leaking gasket if there were any oil leak... -

Thanks for reply. I'm talking about that steady whine that is NOT following rpm, on the contrary it goes bit lower when rpm goes up. Belt+wp renewed two years ago, failing water pump would somehow follow the revs, so would dist/alt/SP. Sound is coming somewhere between oil filter housing and coolant temp sensor, not from the belt side. There is no solenoid etc. that could buzz or whine like that, so my last guess its somehow related to oil pressure+engine temp. No oil leaks found, oil+filter changed 6mo ago. -
Hi You are my next victims in this battle i'm going through. In few days i'm going to burn my car if WE can't get rid of this extra noise from the engine bay. https://youtu.be/R3NWJj07xXI No problems idling or starting, no fault codes. That whine is somehow related to engine temp, it appears as the engine reaches normal temp. It is most audible on exhaust side, service guys wants to dismantle the engine as they didn't have a clue what this is. Not going to happen i think ... Whine goes down when rpm goes up, so not a bearing. Very audible and annoying crying, in traffic lights i can't even keep a window open. Lost my nerves with this, so please HELP ME OUT!
