  1. So, first of all, apologies for this thread, when such a similar one was already on progress. I hadn't imagined anyone else was having the same problem as me! My issue wasn't as clearcut as it would have seemed. Looking at the other thread, I did have the piggy back the wrong way round (I pulled out the original fuse to check). But... neither of the fuses had blown and my issue was that the piggyback had become loose. I do remember now that the connection wasn't very tight. I have now reversed the connection and it seems to fit in a bit better. If I get anymore problems then I'll find a way of strengthening the connection.
  2. Thanks @daveo138 and sorry for the late reply. I'll have a look at the other thread now and also check how the fuse in connected. I thought there was only one way to fit them, so that might be the problem in itself. I'll update when I have more info.
  3. I fitted a Nextbase dashcam to my Octavia last year and have noticed that the piggyback fuse keeps blowing. I connected the dashcam to the cigarette light socket fuse and am using the standard fuses for both. (I can't remember what these values are!) After a period of time, I've noticed that the socket no longer works, and neither does the dashcam. I don't know how long this period is as I don't use the socket much and the dashcam is just on in the background. It is the cigarette lighter fuse that blows and replacing this also fixes the dashcam. My first questions is - aren't the fuses connected in parallel, ie one fuse blowing shouldn't affect the other one? My next question is - should I just put a bigger fuse in for the lighter socket?
  4. Thanks @Gammyleg. I think I might well do that.
  5. Good point about engine size. I had forgotten about that bit. I have a 1.5 TSI. So definitely no oil change then. Thanks for your help @Ootohere
  6. I have seen there was a very similar post to this a few years ago but I'd like to know if people do get their gear oil changed. I have a 2020 Octavia with a 7-speed transmission. So that makes it s dry clutch system. Can I therefore forget about changing the oil or is it best to do it? When I was buying my car (in 2021) I found some info from Skoda that recommended a DSG oil change every 40k/4 years. It had a cost of £215 from a Skoda dealer. Do I need this? Should I go elsewhere to get it cheaper? My gears appear to be slightly misbehaving at the moment and I had thought it might be the oil, until I did some research here. Nothing I can put my finger on, but not as slick as usual. Your thoughts and suggestions are much appreciated.
  7. Thank you both @Gaz and @octavia5. That's really useful to have your experience. I won't be getting my service just yet!
  8. Definitely an aircon service, though when I tried to book it online (via Skoda) it didn't give my that option. There was an aircon cleanse though, for about £60 IIRC. That's interesting that you didn't need an aircon service in your first three years. I always find it difficult to know what I should/must have and what is being offered as a nice extra.
  9. Thanks @KenONeill. I have just checked and it looks like an aircon service is £140! Not very cheap. Maybe I take the risk of not having an aircon warranty for the next year. I'll also check the cost at a local garage.
  10. My Octavia is two years old so my Skoda garage has called me to book my air-conditioning service. I haven't had any problems with it so wouldn't normally have it serviced, or I'd service it at a local (cheaper?) garage. But... as I have another year to go on my official warranty, do I need to get an offiicial Skoda service in case of any air-conditioning problems later on? Also, does anyone know the current cost of a Skoda air-conditioning service?
  11. I could be tempted by rubber mats for those special journeys, though mainly for the kids!
  12. That's basically what I did on my previous car. I hoovered them on my drive, after I vacuumed the car. It helped get them a bit cleaner.
  13. If that's a picture of your car, you keep it too clean!! 😁
  14. Glad to know they are easy to maintain, @VRS_White_Hatch
  15. Thanks @Kenny R. I wasn't brave enough to try that, I thought I might break something.
  16. I'm currently on holiday and getting sand all inside the car. I am managing to clear most of it out but the front car mats are secured to the floor. How do I remove them?? I guess it is easy but I don't want to break anything trying.
  17. It's really useful getting everyone's experience using the app. I haven't been in the car much apart from short journeys but will try both USB and WLAN (with and without BT) for longer periods to see if I can get Connect to update. As @langers2k said, it is a bit underwhelming but I'd like to get it working - consistently.
  18. This thread is a bit old so my answer may be too late, but hopefully helps someone else wanting the same info. I've just bought an Octavia Mk III 2020 SE Drive No folding mirrors No camera No front parking sensors - only read It does include SatNav though. I got confused on the trim levels as well. I think the SE, SE Drive and SE Technology are about the same with one or two changes. They are fairly basic (in modern terms) so I'd go for the SE L if you want more spec, as @GordoGT said. I have the 1.5 TSi Automatic and really like it. Like the OP, I have stayed away from diesels, though I might have been tempted if I did more long motorway drives.
  19. I can get AA to work, though I have the same problems mentioned in that post - you need a high quality cable, for both Android and iPhone phones. Otherwise the connection comes and goes. I have just reregistered the car with Skoda Connect but that doesn't seem to have helped. @langers2k - I'm going with your pretty useless description of the app. I guess I need to go on a long trip with it connected via WLAN and see if it decides to update itself. And yes, I am on my free services with a couple of months still left, though I don't seem to have any more functions than you do.
  20. I get the green symbol top-middle of the display showing it is connected via WLAN. Should I then just be able to run the MySKODA app and it will update with the latest info from the car? Re-adding my mobile is a good idea. It could be that type of problem. I'll give it a go and report back.
  21. Thanks @FrankNicklin. I believe I have the Amundsen system (no sim card). Looking under System Information, it says the following: Hardware: H41 Software: 0478 SmartLink: 4101.4381.1.5 And I'm using an Android phone - Pixel 4a 5G Is that the info you are after? I can go and grab more if needed.
  22. I have recently bought a Mk III Skoda Octavia and I am still getting to grips with some of its technology. I have set up the MySKODA app with my vehicle details and at some point I must have got it connected to my car as it says I have 80% fuel left and it was updated 16 days ago. I am now trying to get it connected again but I'm struggling. I assume I need to set up a WiFi hotspot on my phone and then connect the car to the hotspot. I have tried that (multiple times) but I can't get the app to update. Am I missing a step somewhere? I know the app isn't particularly liked but I'm hoping it is a bit more reliable than I have found it. Any suggestions greatly welcomed.
