  1. If issue occurred exactly along side gear oil leak, then why do you think an ignition problem now? i would get oil looked at regardless, they hold very little oil considering the work they do, is yours a DSG / totally different process for refilling
  2. You don't know what the current level is though do you? i found that even 200ml less than recommended, caused issues, there is a post further up that explains the re fill procedure for your gear box model. Personally,at my level of expertise.... considering the risks in not locking out the selector properly, i would take the car to a VW indie specialist, get it wrong and its gearbox out job........ The golf mk7 forums have more info.
  3. One of the issues i had with a weak battery was the car would just spin over automatically, but not fire, second attempt fine, new battery all good, but i had lost stop start a while back. What does obd eleven say about battery health?
  4. For me, having a subscription version, isn't cost affective... i'm not interested in coding and it recognises all the fault codes, fuel filter prime is once every couple of years.... One thing too, buy the credits within the OBD diagnostic app and its £10, 3 x £2.99 but buy them on their website and its 6 euros..... a little thing but if you re doing a few changes, might be worth knowing.
  5. OBD Eleven came back to me, apparently the change capacity app, does that and changes serial number to a random one.
  6. Well yes, it would be nice to know if this is by design or by error... the only 2 apps they do for the non subscription version is Battery Capacity and Type... nothing about the serial number which i understand is the important bit.... OBD Eleven support atm seems to be non existent, i've no reply or response.
  7. Yes just surprised the obdeleven capacity change did other things as well! Agree VCDS is better but its also expensive for what i need.
  8. Hi All. I've the basic early model Android/VAG only OBDEleven... i swapped out the battery for a 72amp one, old one 68a, same type Fleece. Now i know that in the past, the battery manufacturer was JCB, serial number 1111111111, i had previous played around and tried to change this, wouldn't let me without credit. anyway, bought the credits to change Battery capacity, did this, went into the gateway/adaptation/battery and not only the capacity changed to 72amp but serial number and manufacturer changed as well... I'm i going mad???
  9. I know this is an old thread but be aware of this advice, if you have certain 5 or 6 speed manual boxes - my transmission code is QVX - then this will not work, due to the angle of the gearbox/engine, its not possible to even put back in the oil that drains out...... You need to lock out the gear selector, take out a spline bolt to drain oil missed from draining from the the main drain plug, replace the drain bolts, release gear selector lockout and fill from reverse gear switch.... If you don't lock out the gear selector & remove the bolt, the selector comes loose & you'll need to remove the gearbox, to refit the selector. Skoda/VW would have filled the box long before the engine was put in the car. The only other way, if this hasn't put you off, is to jack up the front of the car by more than 12 degrees, drain using the main plug, measure oil that comes out and refill that amount but you wont get all the oil out of the box this way, about 400ml will be left inside..... My car has done 130k miles, the oil that came out was jet black but no obvious metal particles. Don't ask how i found all this out.......
  10. Hi Thankyou for all the above posters and their links. Just replaced headlight brackets and i found quite straight forward, the hot air gun trick was essential to cut the thread, the insert goes in slightly cross threaded but will tighten down square. I only dropped one side of the bumper (drivers side) On the 2 hidden bolts, a 1/4' drive ratchet plus removing the inner wing and front wheel, made it relatively easy... getting it all back in again was tricky, would be easier with a helper. Start to finish job took just under 2 hours, inc head light adjustment. Used genuine Skoda brackets and self tapping screws - £26.
  11. I ve just done my Octavia tdi 2016, the rear carrier didn't need to be removed, the disk, with a bit of a wiggle can slide under, initially though, it appeared as if they would not.... there are two types of disk depth and mine was the taller of the two, so should be harder. However, where i did become unstuck was the fronts, slotted in the new pads with disks and after about 500 miles, got horrendous brake noise, eventually i found the pads are directional and have a crescent shape cut out of the anti squeal shim and this needs fitting on the leading edge as it contacts the disk, i had fitted them on the trailing edge.....
  12. Thankyou Kedambarai but i think the best way forward is for you to drive down to sunny Cornwall and do the job for me, that way i can see first hand what you mean!!!! I ve replaced seals on motor bike calipers, many of which don't even have dust boots, will be first time on a car though. Just ordered a seal kit! how bad can it be? i mean i ve got AA at Home!!!
  13. Ah thanks for that. I've got the correct wind back tool & have a hydraulic hose clamp or is a plug better? Any issues bleeding the caliper with the ABS set up? i can't see air could get anywhere the abs pump... i'm assuming pre filling the caliper would be a good idea? only other alternative is a refurb caliper from Autodoc, would cost me about £50 if they took back my old caliper.
  14. Thanks, i was hoping it was an easy job ie pull off dust boot, replace in situ but it seems the caliper has to be rebuilt to replace this seal 😞
  15. Hi Done a really stupid thing and put a small snick in the rubber piston seal of the rear caliper (dont ask!) Anyway, where can i get one and how to fit? thanks.
  16. i had weird noises from my Octavia on switch off, it was a faulty coolant pump b, an electrical water pump that pushes coolant around the engine when its switched off. Cheap ish to fix, around £130 from a VW indie, showed up on scanner.
  17. Hi Anyone know the resistance readings that a working oem speed sensor should give? I ve a very intermittent fault, can be fine all day and then randomly re occur (all the ESC/ABS/parking assist warning/stop start lights) that a borrowed obd2 scanner does not show up, one sensor is 6.5Mohms and the other 2.4Mohms, a new but different brand is 0.5Mohms. I don't want to use it as i wont be able to send it back if the issue is somewhere else, don't know anyone with a different scanner other than dealers and i'm on a budget!! 15k miles ago, when it was my company car, a garage supposedly change the NS rear sensor but i think they didn't as its identical to the OS and equally dirty rusty etc, though i guess they could have swapped for a 2nd hand one. Aside do only some OBD2 readers work with Skoda's ? Thanks.
  18. What is the life of a car? i doubt anyone with a 10yr TSi and 130k would have a claim against Skoda if the chain broke & the car would have reached the end of its life..... It cost £380 to do the belt and water pump on my Octavia tdi (independent VW garage) around the cost of a set of tyres and will do another 100k.
  19. Mine was a company car, that i ended up buying, it was serviced to Skoda's service intervals and i did try getting Skoda to change the belt etc before i purchased it based on 100k miles, Skoda UK said its 6 years or 120k miles, this was in 2020. The belt was changed at 103k miles because the water pump failed, it was already fraying.. car was mainly used on longer DC and motorways, it did have stop start. Now it seems every 5 years or 50k....
  20. Possibly, but something isn't quite right here, my cam belt was close to falling apart after 100k, yet others look like new after similar miles, i 've had the car from new and had no issues with water pump until the last few 000s miles, had that pump not leaked, i could well be looking at a written off car with a destroyed engine.
  21. I wonder whether cambelt suppliers get changed quite often? i've known a few Skoda owners who have had Cambelts done at around 100 to 140k miles and all seem to be quite different in condition plus Skoda themselves spec a different change period to the UK importers.
  22. Very wise, i ve had a slight water leak for a while now, the aux water pump was making a lot of noise too, so dropped the car to local indie VW garage for pump and leak (Bradburn Auto, nr Plymouth) He found the engine driven pump was leaking and cam belt was fraying..... car is 5 years old and 100k miles, i've had it from new & intend to keep it until it dies. Very glad i didn't follow the other cam belt replacement interval that other countries suggest. Just one other thing, he said timing was out, the car is going a lot better now since he corrected that.
