  1. I always fill up at Shell, but get the non-premium diesel (is the closest to my commuting route and only 2 to 3 cents more expensive than the gas stations in my town, so what the heck). However, I never rev higher than 2500 RPM in normal driving (got to love 6th gear cruising) apart from the 2nd to 3rd gear switch. So I probably should do the Italian tune up. The car has just passed 307k miles and has gotten a replacement cat about 8 years and 160k miles back, doing about 18k miles a year since then. Maybe it's time for a new one? I don't know I will see if the things you mentioned will help and I will just see what happens at the emission station. Thank you for the reply!
  2. Good day people! I have been looking at the option of using Shell GTL 'diesel' to bring my emissions down for an upcoming emission test, it's a little smokey at times, and possibly using it for the long term as well. I have heard it could make rubber seals shrink and/or leak due to the lack of toluene and benzene in GTL and the fact that it has a lower specific gravity as opposed to normal Diesel. So I am hesitant of trying it out on the vehicle I am relying on, since I am not really looking forward to replacing injectors or injector seals, because those are expensive. Have any of you tried this in your old 1.9 TDI with pump injection, if so. How has your experience been? Do you recommend it or is it not worth the risk, not even for a single fuel up to get through the emission test. Thank you for reading.
