Component Protection Active?
Saga Part IV. A New Hope. After a 3 week visit to the dealer the cruise controller now works. The head technician tried to manually a security token which worked. During this time we had the load of the Superb 2024 4x4 Diesel. Ok but I'm hooked on the quiet hybrid. The remote control features still don't work since we can't set the primary user. The technian notice this too and also noticed the absence of the E-Commerce app on the main screen. It does a lot more than allow one the buy subscriptions, etc. It acts as the main communications hub in the infotainment system. After much fiddling by him it still stubbornly refused to appear. It turns out a few Skoda Superbs have the same issue and it is not a bug in the cars. The server application sitting somewhere in the Skoda cloud service has a bug that affects a few cars. The car was returned with assurances that the server application would be patched in the coming weeks (months?) and all functions will be restored. I cannot fault the local dealer (Motor Partner Namsos) since they have really tried to help but I am less than pleased with Skoda to release such software. And now I simply wait...

Component Protection Active?
Saga Part III. The dealer replaced the infotainment system and now the radio is back. They couldn't get the gps to work so it looks like the 'new' unit was also defective. This took about a week so the dealer generously gave us a loaner car. A 2024 Enyaq iv80. Quite nice. So the infotainment system works ...better. I also discovered I can't set the Primary User which is a pain. The dealer has ordered a another unit which we plan to install in September which is after our holidays and is the next opportunity to do this. I can't fault the dealer at all and are genuinely doing their best. Just bug-ridden, crappy software from Skoda/VW.

Component Protection Active?
Further to the saga. We got a message from the dealer after they'd contacted the technical office. They were advised to replace the unit. They couldn't give a date when this would be. Yay, a summer holiday without radio, navigation, etc. The dealers sort of updated the software so now the adaptive cruise control is busted as well. I am a developer engineer so I am struggling to understand why the need to replace the computer. A computer either works or not at all. The problem is most likely software related but due some inane restrictions put on the computer one cannot simply update it. I can't fault the dealer and I still think the car is very good but it is badly let down by a very buggy computer and very bad design decisions around said computer.

Component Protection Active?
Got the same problem with Supurb 2020 except the bug is permanent. 2 trips to the dealer with no joy. They are geniunely puzzled how to fix it. It is annoying that there is no radio, no navigation and no mobile connectivity. It is a warranty issue so it won't cost us but looks like the dealer will have the car for a while.

Coolant turned Black in 2011 TDI
We are going into a Norwegian winter so overheating is not too much of a problem. It looks like an internal leak since there are no pink puddles under the car and leakage is extremely slow. My biggest decision is whether to sell the car as is (with full disclosure) at a greatly reduced price or fix it and get a better price. The car is low kms and was clearly looked after by first and previous owner and we've tried to do same. It has a lot factory add-ons and also a set of external xenon lights. He lived in 'elk country' so it was handy. Unexpectedly wearing a 400kg elk at night is not a good thing...

Coolant turned Black in 2011 TDI
@MATT0693 Thanks for the prompt answer. I've since had a chat since with the local Skoda mechanic and it seems that any solution will involve removing the head or replacing the entire engine. Since I live in Norway, anything to do with cars is horrendously expensive. He did also say that the problem is not urgent as the amount of coolant being consumed is very small. Our plan is bear with it and watch carefully (no major drives) and replace the engine early next year. The cost of replacing the head gasket and exhaust cooler value in parts and labour is the same as re-conditioned engine. I'm really starting to lust after the new electric Enyaq. It just costs quite a few coins though not as much as a Tesla!

I have noticed a very slow leak of coolant which triggers the low coolant alert every 1000 to 2000km. There is no visible leak but the coolant in the reservoir has turned black and smells of exhaust. The car otherwise performs perfectly. What could cause this and does this indicate a more serious problem?
