  1. ahenners, thanks. Not a job I need so will book it in.
  2. Hi, Windscreen wash warning came on a few days ago on my 2yr old VRS. Having topped the tank up with a considerable amount of recommended fluid (always used) I noticed it leaking out from underside the front bumper area on the drivers side - I can't see any tank or pipework where it could be leaking from. No indication of any problem up until now. Any ideas as to likely area of leak, ease of access for remedy and possible initial cause. Thanks for any help.
  3. Hope you have a good Halfords; clutch plates changed and put in wrong way round (not on a skoda) causing need for whole unit change. Another H depot ran car into wall and smashed bumper, plus later found they had secured headlight at one fitting using adhesive tape! Family cars, not local and two different depots. Hope you get it sorted properly whatever it is.
  4. 2.0 TDi VRs with DSG 6 speed and extremely smooth. Only slight concern/query I have is that it is slow to respond on initial start on cold mornings, after standing for a day or two, and slight incline of my driveway (suspect this is mainly due to the first two and expected). Very pleased with it and cannot ever see me going back to manual (although I do like using the paddles when appropriate). Sorry, no experience of 7 speed.
  5. Windscreen completely frozen over late last night and for the first time I saw how effective a heated screen is; max 30 secs and it was clear. Used aerosols previously but not always completely effective; never liked using warm water as it can freeze in run off areas. Windscreen covers seem a good idea although never used them myself. Just to rub salt into the wound for those without heated screens, I also used the heated drivers seat for the first time (both new to me); a warm backside and lumber region after a short while - a very pleasurable drive home in not so pleasant weather . Sorry.
  6. Having read through this post again it beggars belief that the dealer/service centre has to call for experts from outside. Where are the qualified mechanics? Those that have been trained by Skoda/VW and proudly show off the qualification certificates in the entrance lobby? Are car mechanisms that complex today that supposed trained or qualified people cannot establish the cause and then remedy the fault without the need for experts to fly in? Or have I missed the point and this is only a sales company without any knowledge of a cars engineering? Glad to see that you now have a better class of vehicle as a stand-in and hope you very soon get it sorted to your entire satisfaction, with considerable compensation: I think your situation would have taken its toll on my health and life expectancy .
  7. Enjoy. I went auto box with my VRS diesel and whilst it took me a while to get familiar I am now very comfortable and really enjoying her.
  8. Had my VRS coated with Si Ramik early Nov. Benefits are said to be: potential durability of over 3yrs; car stays cleaner longer; tougher finish than wax protection so is far more tolerant of the wash maintenance; extremely water repellent so washes are far easier and drying requires less effort. Reduced adhesion of dirt, especially noticeable in the lower areas. Greater protection against the impact of bird lime on paint surface. Plus of course, a super shine. Haven't really seen a need to wash the car until yesterday and this following a recent journey and stay in the SW, so plenty of opportunity for dust, grime, rain, road debris, etc. during that time. I fealt the car was ready for a wash but didn't appreciate how much muck had built up over 2mths and 1500mls until I saw the colour difference between water in the wash and rinse buckets. I found the whole wash and dry process required very little effort and the car looks absolutely beautiful even on these dull days. So far, so good and hope this continues (I did have the wheels removed and treated, as well as having the leather upholstery treated and protected). With a few years under my belt I am all for minimising my work effort and from yesterdays results think I made a good choice.
  9. 34psi (2.4bar) is about right for 3 people plus luggage and nomal driving, as per fuel flap table. Increased to 39/2.7 for same loading in eco mode, or 36/2.5 if 5 persons plus luggage. As others suggest, try to see which suits your driving style/comfort and just keep a check for even surface tyre wear.
  10. Happened to me in first few days of having her and not having read up about the warnings, resetting etc. Had checked initial tyre pressures to be sure all consistent and correct and found one too high. Let some air out to correct which caused the warning when I was taking her for a good run. I hadn't reset following the change I made but also realised sun heat on one side had probably caused original discrepancy in pressure. Remedied by checking all when in shade followed by resetting on system and never had further warnings now over 1000mls more covered. Other posts on here state tyre circumference/revolution/distance covered is recorded after initial system reset and then monitored and compared over car mileage, any change seen from the original will trigger the warning. So tyre circumference is key to the system and whilst quite effective as a means of measurement and monitoring it can be subject to many factors which IMHO could lead to spurious indications: however better to be warned of potential problem than nothing at all.
  11. OK if that's most convenient for you but I would phone/notify dealer now for record purposes in case it leads to a greater problem over next 3mths plus (too long time for me).
  12. Shame people not man enough to own up, assuming they were aware. Hope you get it sorted effectively without too much 'out of pocket'.
  13. Following Detailing work which has deepened the colour and enhanced the gloss. I am told that apart from the added protection from dirt, including bird lime, salt, etc., the real benefit is seen when the dirt carrying water droplets cascade off the surface, reduced muck clinging to the lower surfaces and minimal effort in washing and drying her. Certainly impressed with skill and knowledge shown by the detailer. Also, I was unsure if I would see any noticeable difference in shine with it being a brand new car paint surface - I wasn't disappointed. Not inexpensive but I hope worth it in the long term.
  14. Columbus car info showed 51.8mpg over 1280mls, and that whilst continually driving in eco mode, and mostly with 'stop - start (SS)' engaged. Not driving hard and over a mixture of motorway, country and town short journeys. Happy with that so now starting to drive in 'normal' mode and isolating SS from now on. By the way, car has DSG box, so another factor positive or negative (unsure which).
  15. Two months gone, settling in and enjoying my new Octavia vRS, TDi 135kW Hatch with DSG box and comfortable leather seats more each time I take her out. Pleased with the colour (Rio Red), black pack, red stitching, Gemini anthracite wheels and the smaller 'sporty' steering wheel. Also found the Net Program useful a month ago when needing to secure potted plants and other items in the boot. Looking forward to using the sunroof when the weather warms up next year, something I missed on my previous second hand Octavia Ambient. Getting into routine switching the engine 'stop - start (SS)' off which seemed to catch me out a few times, or rather it stopped the engine just as I was wanting to move off. I would have liked a permanent solution to isolate the SS, rather than having to remember to isolate it before starting a new journey, or restarting the engine part way through a journey; I believe other manufacturers provide this option. I have noted some other negative comments/observations on the forum but the only one which so far I have found a bit of a neusense is the reflection of chrome work in the wing mirrors; it can distract from meaningful observation until you get used to looking through and beyond it. The cabin ambient noise is as expected for a Hatch, tyre noise becomes very obvious especially over concrete and rough/heavy used tarmac surfaces but is almost non-existent on good quality tarmac road surfaces (not many in the UK these days, more like driving over a cooks colendar with all the pot holes). Having adjusted the Canton sound settings slightly, generally a little more bass, I quite enjoy the quality and album presention having uploaded 1400 tracks onto the hard drive. Lots more could be said but enough for now lest I bore you with my personal observations, and, yes, I am very pleased with the car and bonding to it nicely thankyou.
