  1. Might sound far fetched but I had a similar issue on my Fabia Vrs and the fix was silicone grease applied to the two rubber buffers - one either side - under the bonnet near to the bulkhead. Try it!
  2. Not a lot, really. After a bit I found the engine note kinda annoying; the exhaust valve - so I was informed - seems to be the source. Oh, I almost forgot, 24 mpg and the spiraling fuel cost were also major factors. Major plus was the quattro's abilities during the awful snowy conditions last Dec.But you'll already be familiar with 4 wheel drive superiority.
  3. Why not? I was a regular in Fabia 1 and wanted to let the guys know what had replaced my Fabia. You never know; someday you might appreciate this input from me. Have a nice day, pal?!
  4. Since parting with my beloved Fabia vRS 15 months ago, I've had affairs with a Merc C270, an Audi A4 2.0TDI, another Audi, A4, this time the 2.0TFSI Quattro but none lasted beyond the initial infatuation. The latest is more likely to last, however. She is a Seat Altea XL 1.9 TDI(105) Stylance. Quite fancied the Roomster chick but the Altea's curves were too much of a temptation - and I've never been able to resist temptation. Although the three "flings" had a lot more on paper they never stirred the senses quite like the Furby. However, the Altea's 1.9TDI engine even with 70Nm less torque is still pretty hot when it really counts. So, although I've strayed - 2 recently acquired grandchildren would have rendered the Furby obsolete at this point, anyway - I hope in time you'll forgive me. BTW, I was always making clandestine visits here in the interim. Will post a pic if I can remember how. Standard except for 17" Kahn RSR alloys.
  5. If, like me, you prefer chrome indicator bulbs to the more common orange variety and in the past your preference was Silvatec, then here's my advice: AVOID. In the past I've had quite a few of these but the most recent are of a much reduced standard - the chroming is almost non-existent. These were supplied by carmodz and they have replaced the Silvatecs with other, much better quality bulbs, by KR Wehl. Shame really, as the original Silvatecs were really reliable.

    Kia Ceed 1.6 Diesel

Having been the proud owner of a beaut Mk1 Fabia vRS and having failed to be impressed with almost anything about the Mk2 I decided to look elsewhere. I fancied a 2.0TDI Golf but they were just too expensive and miserly specced. So, I decided to look for something of similar size to the Golf and came up with the Ceed 3 1.6 CRDi hatch. This is the nearest thing I could find to the performance and handling of the Fabia - better on the handling, I should add - and £5K less than the same year/mileage/spec Golf- I kid you not. So, for those of you who still miss your Mk1 vRS go for a test drive in the Ceed. Like me, you might be pleasantly surprised. Right now I have the car in my signature but the inexorably rising fuel costs are ending that ownership. I get the Ceed in the next couple of weeks.
  7. After selling the vRS in April I bought a C class 270. Refined, it wasn't. The roughest, noisiest diesel on the planet IMO. Good auto, though. Sold this after two months and bought an Audi A4TDI 140. Had too many issues with it and eventually pushed the dealer into a full refund two months later. Got the FSI from Glasgow Audi in August and have only one issue - I don't like the exhaust note. However, it makes up for it in the snow.......WOWEEE!!
  8. As many of you will know I still regret parting company with my wee Black Magic vRS. However, the recent weather has helped to wean me off, at least slightly. Why? Well, I eventually ended up buying a Quattro drive Audi and its performance in the snow by comparison is nothing short of amazing. Still miss the vRS's big lumps of torque, though.

Tie for first place: Mazda Xedos 6 (Silky smooth and quick enough) and Skoda Fabia vRS (Just WOW!) Haven't had the Quattro long enough to compare. It'll need to be very good to displace the above, though. Worst: Morris Marina. So called, as the boot was regularly flooded and an ideal place for my then young son, to sail his toy boats
  10. I asked the same ? some time ago but never did get an answer regarding colour code. However, local indie trade paint supplier here in Motherwell said the alloy wheel paint was defined as, "VW ALLOY SILVER" and that it was available as a made-up aerosol from them. 10 mins later, voila! £11, as I remember. And the colour match is spot-on. Hope this helps.
  11. On Sunday, with a sad heart, I said cheerio to my lovely wee Fabia vRS. I'm going to miss her, though. Without doubt the most fun-car, so far. It has gone to a lovely lass from Perth and I wish her well. The replacement is a Merc C270, which is a completely different but quite enjoyable, in a kinda sedate way (quite fast, though). I'll keep an eye on here as I've thoroughly enjoyed myself over the past three years.. Thanks for everything.
  12. Hi Steve, You might have to do as I did; be patient, you'll eventually get four. So, why not start right here with this one? Can do a deal on the price, for you! Just PM. Bill.
  13. Hi guys. In case you've not recently been looking in the "car parts for sale" section I'm just drawing attention to the Evolo I've got in there. For those in the know you'll realize this is a rare opportunity.
