New Turbo, -how to clean oil out of whole exhaust?
This was the same- the Intercooler ducting rubbed through the cooling fins on the Intercooler, so replaced it with a new one. Did and oil/filter change the same time. Then drove it round the block and boy looked in the mirror and thick white smoke plumed out behind the car! Went home smartish and found it had ditched pretty much all the oil Iβd just put in. Hence the new turbo now. Good idea doing another oil change before long though, will do. All the bestππ

New Turbo, -how to clean oil out of whole exhaust?
Well took it for a test run yesterday of about 12 miles, got it good and warm, so had the odd βJames Bondβ style smoke screen following me!?π₯΄. Why is it you always see people you know when embaressing things are happening? But it does clear, then you give it some welly and it will smoke a bit more. There was a lot of oil stuck to the inside of the exhaust pipes though, so dare say itβll take a while to burn off . But it runs well, checked levels again and all good, goes well too although Iβve been careful with it, so fingers crossed itβs okππ.

New Turbo, -how to clean oil out of whole exhaust?
Hi allπ, Our beloved 2001 tdi estates turbo packed up a few months back. Just fitted a new turbo, but the exhaust system had oil draining from the tail pipe when it happened, as well as masses of smoke!, so have removed the whole thing. Hardly any oil has drained out since standing each section end on. Any tips on cleaning it out please peeps? Thought about burning it in a oil drum with wood to get it hot, but daresay that would eff it!π₯΄, any ideas?π

After rebuilding the rack, the darn thing wizzed fluid out like a jetwash in the endπ³. So fitted one off a TT, new rod ends, and a new wheel bearing, and boy what a difference! π, much nicer to drive now, and back on the road more importantly. Thanks for your help chaps!ππ.

Thanks guys for your positivity π. Boy what a job! I think Iβm pretty good at sticking to tedious tasks.... and this is one of those thats for sure. Tried drilling the coreplug but no joy, seriously hard metal-none of my new bits would touch it!?π€. So thought Iβd weld a bolt to it and pull it off, but it wouldnt weld either. So ground the alloy around it down until it tapped out with a hammer. Distorted the roller bearing cage on the end of the shaft a bit but hopefully still ok. Quick tap with a drift and the pinion shaft popped out!π. Next job getting the rack out the housing-theres a circlip holding the seal/bush in the end furthest from the pinion, sprung it out with screwdrivers, removed the seal/bush and rackπ. Next job inner seal/bush.....what a bas#ard! Had to make long reach tools out of steel rod to pry it and chop it out in the endπ, buts its outπ. Just need to clean the rust pitting off the end of the rack, and any other blemishes, then I can start putting it back together. It will be an absolute miracle if it works!π, but weβll see. But the amount of time and effort is just nuts, never worth it really. Do any of you know if an Audi TT rack will fit? Serial number is pretty similar all but the last few didgets!?ππ Brace yourselves for the next exciting episode...........ππ

Looks like nobody has done this judging by the amazing response!π, so Iβll whip the coreplug thing off, nothing to lose.ππ

Hi folks! Iβm trying to repair my leaking steering rack,on my 2001 Octavia TDi, and remove the pinion/shaft shown here. Looking at other vids, the shaft pulls out from above, but cant get this to budge, and the bearing housing is probably/hopefully the reason. The core plug type thing on the bottom-should that lever off? Any tips appreciated please. Many thanks. - Octavia mk1 steering rack dismantle
