  2. Updates: Drove her back from Guildford, ran her to work for a couple of days, so on and so forth. Already started a list of things I wanted to change, so I could "make my mark" on her. Few more pictures: Nothing exciting happened, until she started leaking oil. Nothing serious, I mean it's a 17 year old car - to be expected, right? It was then I realised that this might have something to do with the slipping clutch. Another thing I wasn't so worried about, a 94k Corrado engine with 200+ bhp and a standard clutch - not a good thing. I'd made plans to change it in the next few weeks anyway; but it was at this point I realised that I'd used a gallon of oil in two days. Whoops. I started to worry; then I looked out the window and saw the oil slick on my flat's allocated parking... whoops again! Anyway, with this going on she was promptly driven to work (sometimes working in a scrap yard with a tyre bay and acres of space is handy) and investigation started: ...quickly, my beautiful assistant (thanks again Dave) found out the sump bolts were loose: So, while this was going on, I turned my attention to what was occuring up top. After the usual wipe & rub I thought the source could be part of the intercooler plumbing: ...so, I dismantled it: Despite it looking a little shonky, the seal was good and there was very little oil in the cooler pipework. Relief. Back together, and by this point Dave had finished under the car. Started... still leaking. I took the opportunity to fix a weeping fuel pipe with a handy length donated by an ELV Audo A6 20vT. Keeping it dub Seriously though, still oil leaking so open came the bonnet again - first thing we saw was this hole in the cam/rocker cover: Naturally, we looked at the flow of the oil and where it was present on the engine, and it seemed consistent with the theory that the oil I was pouring in was coming out this hole and spreading itself over the engine. A quick Google search proved this unlikely as all the G60's had this; however time on this theory was cut short as Dave saw where the oil was coming from...
  3. The Transit's coming on surprisingly well, had her running last week but we've run out of the aviation fuel we need so she's on a back burner for now... I estimate she's about 190-200bhp at the moment, and I think they weigh about 900kgs. I'm hoping for about 220 when I've sorted out a couple of things and got her properly setup, she's not breathing properly and the.... Well, see the next installment

  6. Not at all, was a good descision financially. An unfortunate change in personal circumstances meant I was living on my own, less than a 10 minute drive from where I now work - plus more money, cheap petrol (38p/litre ) and access to a farm unit means I could justify something more fun. And fun, she certainly is... I'm updating the Golf's PD shortly with the latest information... That said, the Audi was a brilliant car. I'd have another one tomorrow if I needed something cheap - short of the repairs/servicing I had to do straight away she was a bargain.
  7. Okay, so first proper update. This is exactly how I got her. Picked her up last week from just outside Guildford. She's a 1992 3-door VW Golf GTI 16v which as you can see has been converted to run a G60 (1.8 8v supercharged) engine. Her current specification is as follows: Performance 1.8 G60 engine from VW Corrado 68mm pulley High-lift cam 4-1 exhaust manifold Jetex stainless manifold-back system with twin 3" pipes K&N Induction kit Mercedes Sprinter front mounted intercooler with custom stainless pipework Suspension/braking -40mm springs on Turbo Gas shocks G60 brakes BBS RA 15" wheels with 195/50/15 tyres Cosmetic Genuine "big bumper" model Debadged and smoothed rear end Flat rear wiper Single front wiper conversion with Aero-Twin wiper Mint rainbow interior "Stealth" parcel shelf with Kenwood 6x9's Headlamp "eyebrow" spoiler Black front grille VW badge Deleted front GTI badge There's still plenty to do, but as you can see from the pics her bodywork is in excellent condition and there's the biggest pile of history paperwork I've ever seen in my life: ...even that pic doesn't do the paperwork justice. Anyway, there's a load more to update you with but I thought I'd just wet your appetite for now

  10. Sorry I couldn't make it folks, little-fox had a bit of a mare today. Could hardly get her in her clothes this morning without her kicking off, let alone a car all the way to Droitwich... How was it anyway? Will book a babysitter next time :(

  16. IIRC they're 17.5cm/6 1/2", although I think you need adaptors to fit the aftermarket ones in correctly.

  20. Well, she's back. After an equally epic battle with the intercooler, Ali from Unit18 managed to get the new one in. Another top drawer service from Unit18, cheers lads. It seems as though there's two types of MAF sensor on these cars, an earlier one and a later one... which have different sizes. Fantastic.Not entirely sure why...
