Driveshaft Nut replacement cost and timescale
Thanks for all the comments folks and apologies for not responding sooner: it's been a very busy day. I think it has clarified for me some of the things that happened: as three of you have suggested he did take the wheel hub out as there was quite a lot of debris and generally a shredded mess. It was at this point he started saying about the (potential) single use nature of the driveshaft/axle nut. However he also said it looked fine and was safe to drive at a lower speed for the remainder of the journey but to be safe I should get it looked at and checked when I got home. Having done some research based on the responses you gave I came to this which I think is a good overview and helps me understand the situation even more comprehensively: Can You Reuse Axle Nuts, Or Are They Single Use Only? - Car, Truck And Vehicle How To Guides - Vehicle Freak So in essence it is not missing but needs checking to see if it needs replacing and I will get this sorted. Breezy Pete: these were just examples rather than what I would actually buy 9but thanks I now know what is needed specifically:)) Thanks again for all the responses: i now have a much clearer idea of what has happened I have found this site and its forums excellent for 3 different things now! Cheers, Paul.

Driveshaft Nut replacement cost and timescale
Yeah I don't think anyone in 3 garages was familiar with the terminology he used so your response and comment is not surprising. Seems to be known as the Driveshaft axle or Double Hexagon Nut when I did some research. Having looked online again it was these: New Genuine VW Fox Polo Skoda Fabia Driveshaft Double Hexagon Nut 6Q0407396C | eBay Drive Shaft Axle Nut Front Fits SKODA AUDI VW Fabia I Combi Praktik 6E0407395A | eBay It was gone 11 p.m. and I didn't get home till 2 a.m. so hard to remember the detail of what he said (which was quite a lot!) but I have the paperwork and he was adamant I get it replaced so I will just get it/them replaced on Friday as it looks quite straightforward. Cheers for prompt response.

Driveshaft Nut replacement cost and timescale
I had a tyre blowout on the motorway a couple of nights ago and the tyre was totally shredded and way beyond my ability to take off (I had been advised at my recent service that I had a few months left but that they needed replacing in the not too distant future). The AA guy has advised the driveshaft nut is replaced asap as they are only for one off use. When I got two new front tyres from a local and well regarded independent tyre specialist the guy replacing them said there was no nut on the other front wheel/tyre and did not feel there was an issue but that I should get it checked out by an independent garage rather than the dealership. Have rang my local garage and they had no idea what the driveshaft nut was and tried to get through to two different Skoda dealerships to check costs etc without any joy. Have booked in with a garage I have used before on Friday (the earliest they can fit me in). Just wondering how urgent the replacement of the driveshaft nut is and what cost I can expect for one (or both if both needed) if anyone knows (they look quite cheap via Ebay). Thanks in advance.

First service (and potential upselling?)
Just to close the loop on this: there was no upselling or additional work required other than advisories on changing the front tyres soon. I think the fact that they were busy was good and bad: no time or desire to do any extra work but my car was not ready at the 5 p.m. they advised so had to wait until 5.30, which was annoying. I will book a waiting appointment next time! Thanks for all the responses: very useful for this but also going forward. Cheers.

Nice one toot: got a Sainsburys near work and Tesco not far away so may opt for one of those.

First service (and potential upselling?)
Thanks for all the replies and comments folks: very helpful. I should be driving to Bournemouth next week a few days after the oil change so I can fill up with the more expensive fuel down there for the journey back. It's a definite No on the fuel treatment!

First service (and potential upselling?)
Thanks for the responses thus far folks. unfortunately I filled up yesterday as I thought I might have to make a long journey today but don't. However I will fill up with higher quality fuel after. And yes I think I can tell Ken! I feel much better prepared with questions now if and when they suggest any other work...... Many thanks Paul.

First service (and potential upselling?)
Thanks AGFalco: more or less what I was thinking thankfully. Definitely registered 2020 (bio must be wrong: that's when I joined the forum) and 9400 since I got it: my mum is in and out of hospital in Dorset (noticed your location!) so done more mileage than usual. Thanks for the prompt response.

First service (and potential upselling?)
I bought my first Skoda (Fabia Colour Edition) last June and as I have done 9.400 miles I need an oil change (keep getting the reminders and now overdue!) so have booked the first of my two free services. Initially I tried to book this into Skoda Manchester but as that is closing I was automatically booked into Stockport Lookers (where I actually bought the vehicle). This is not a convenient location so I'm going to Bolton on Monday. The Lookers confirmation email stated: With the age of the vehicle we would recommend a brake fluid change for £69 and a fuel treatment for £19.99. As a first time Skoda owner I'm wondering if it's usual for other 'necessary' (?!) work to be found/suggested (my vehicle was registered September 2020) and if so do others tend to get it done at the same time via Skoda (considerably more expensive than independents I imagine) or going to a local garage that I usually use that is not a Skoda specialist but with a good reputation? (which is what I always did with my Mazda 3's). I know there is no definitively 'right' answer to this but interested in the experiences and views of more experienced Skoda owners. I used this forum when buying my Skoda and found it invaluable in terms of the best way to buy the car and with a couple of issues I had during the purchase. Thanks in advance. Paul.

Car not ready for collection on agreed date
Yes I did! I was going to update over the weekend. They delivered it today. Full tank of petrol and the guy even reversed onto my drive before I got chance to come outside. I took the advice on here and asked for the full service history and asked questions about the history and was fully satisfied and reassured. The saleswoman I dealt with has been excellent. The PCP has got a bit messed up as I took the part exchange off quite late on (and got £250 more than the dealership had offered us) so I need to wait for that to be sorted and changed to the new agreement before either reducing payments to 12 months or doing a full resettlement. Thanks for all the advice to you and anyone else still reading. It made me realise it was worth asking a few questions but also giving them the chance to sort things out, which in fairness they did efficiently and to a high standard. I'm off to Bournemouth in it tomorrow so it will get a good run out very quickly!

Car not ready for collection on agreed date
Thanks Gaz that's useful to know. I have already emailed to ask Gary more detail but given the responses and in light of ongoing issues organisations are facing I am inclined to just be patient as I do like the car. I'm going to see my mum down south on Saturday but if its not ready for then so be it. Cheers, Paul.

Car not ready for collection on agreed date
Thanks and that's interesting. I think it just all happened on a bad day (bad day at work, HMRC tax bill for £900) so it annoyed me more than it might have done. Personally I don't think there is anything to particularly worry about but I have been disappointed by the buying experience as after a Ford Focus and 2 x Mazda 3's this has been a really bad buying experience in comparison to Fords of Winsford and a Mazda dealership (and that was not great) and I expected better from Skoda given all the rave reviews (although this is Lookers Skoda, for what that's worth). Also there is a bit of chain involved as my wife will be getting rid of her car and having mine as part of this so that adds to the hassle and disappointment. Based on the last two responses I am going to email the saleswoman and see what she comes back with me. Hopefully it will be delivered Friday (but as I say I'm very doubtful on this). Thanks for all the responses: it's been a very mixed bag but all useful.

Car not ready for collection on agreed date
Fabia Colour edition 95 TSI 95 registered in September 2020 and it's done just over 19k miles, advertised as 16k on website and it did seem a little high (although I don't do high mileage) which might support your ex demo suggestion? Yeah PCP deal with remainder of warranty and 2 services plus £250 contribution.

Car not ready for collection on agreed date
Thanks for the prompt responses. Freedom: I did not consider any of that I'm afraid (I am in no way any sort of car or Skoda expert, which is why I cam on here). In terms of your first point I'm not too concerned for the sake of a couple of days. Ex Demonstrator didn't occur to me. Thanks for your honesty Skomaz: it probably doesn't come across in my post but I'm very sceptical about this actually happening on Friday as the offer has been a bit vague and I'm not sure it's been approved. If it does then of course it's a great outcome. Also I have already test driven another Fabia at a different dealer which I also really liked, but is a grand dealer (part of my dilemma). I will be absolutely delighted if it turns out I am making a mountain out of a molehill and it arrives Friday.

Car not ready for collection on agreed date
I posted on here about buying a new Skoda a while back and got some really useful feedback (decided to buy a used rather than new Fabia partly because of this) so thought I would do the same now, Last Thursday I test drove and put a deposit down on a Fabia and was told it would be ready today (Wednesday, which even then seemed quite a long time to have to wait). When I rang today to ask if I could collect at lunchtime rather than the 6 p.m. time we had agreed I was told the car had not been serviced (worrying in itself) so this was not possible. This was fine by me as it made little difference really. A couple of hours later I got a call to say unfortunately a dent had been found in the roof (A Colour edition so hard to see when I first looked and test drove) and that the car was unlikely to be ready for collection today. To cut a long story short I said I was not happy and the salesperson suggested they deliver the car to me on Friday. I gladly accepted this offer but was then told they hoped the dent could be fixed so the car could be collected tonight. Just after 4 p.m. I got an email to say the car would not be ready and they would TRY to deliver on Friday. I am now going to have to ask to work form home or take leave: both inconvenient. Having rang Skoda Finance after this I was told the PCP started yesterday so I am already paying interest on a car I don't have (new paperwork has been written as I am no longer part exchanging my car so hopefully this will replace the old agreement). The Skoda Finance guy was very helpful and asked me why the car was not ready and seemed surprised (and yet not surprised too) when I told him. The car has now been filled with petrol (as agreed when I paid the deposit) but I am inclined to cancel the purchase and demand my deposit is refunded if the car is not delivered Friday as it feels like one issue after another. Have others experienced anything similar? Am I likely to receive the refund without much hassle as I have been messed around? If anyone has had their Skoda delivered did this go to plan? The whole experience epitomises everything I hate about buying a car and why I tend to keep them for as long as possible,

Advice for a first time Skoda Fabia buyer
Great thanks folks. I had read somewhere (done so much research I can't remember where) that someone suggested the rules had been changed so that you did have to now pay 3 months but elsewhere others suggest making the call pretty much straight after, which obviously makes the most sense. Having done some further research I have decided to hang fire so that I can explore the options mentioned in the responses as good deals are obviously harder to find in a launch period as stated. I'm in no hurry so will bide my time. Thanks for the responses and suggestions re paying off, Drivethedeal, Carwow, brokers etc (I have actually looked into this last option since my post) as saving a few hundred sounds good to me! I shall look into all the options and am not now fixed on getting it brand new. Cheers, Paul.

Advice for a first time Skoda Fabia buyer
Hi folks I have test driven a Fabia Colour Edition this morning and like it enough to consider buying, especially as the second hand market seems really inflated currently for obvious reasons. When discussing with the salesperson after he mentioned the £1000 off and reduced price for two services if I took the finance deal. which he said I could cancel after about 3 months. Having read other comments on this site I'm presuming this is a no brainer compared to paying full price with cash? So my questions are: 1) Can you negotiate on price or freebies at all if paying cash or taking their Finance deal? I got the impression they are selling so many of the new Fabias they don't need to offer further incentives. Is it even worth asking for further incentives on a brand new model and/or going to add another Skoda dealer to get a better deal? 2) is their Finance deal the best way to go (assuming you then cancel)? When leaving I asked him about the lead in time and he confirmed it would be 10-14 weeks but if I left it much longer it might be considerably longer and was not sure how much of a sales ploy this might be (the guy seemed OK overall, and he did not provide this info until I asked him about the demand for the new Fabia). I have had my Mazda 3 for about 9 years and remember buying it from the Mazda showroom was a lengthy ordeal so would appreciate any tips from more experienced Skoda drivers. Thanks in advance!
