  1. Not sure I would bother with the Maxidot, unless you really, really wanted it..
  2. Now sold, to a member of this forum as it happens. I am sure he will have many happy motoring years with it too.
  3. That sounds like a good compromise, particularly if you 'reluctantly' agree to it as long as you have the first two or three services free of charge!
  4. Picked up my Volvo today, so I really need to move the Scout on now, so if you are interested let me know & maybe we could work out a deal!
  5. No you don't, you need to put you r photo's in something like photobucket & link to them. Glad you like it though, you wait till it snows, you will be in second heaven! Oops - James beat me to it!
  6. You are right, I noticed that about half an hour ago - I will change it in a tick. My RFL renewal is £190 pa.
  7. Caffyns Tonbridge did the cambelt and put a fresh MOT on today, it flew though of course! If anyone is interested, give me a ring and throw an offer at me, if we can agree then come and have a drive. I drove a brand new Octavia 1.6 MPI Estate today as a courtesy car, the Scout felt better - much more torque, and no worse for the age & mileage. It still feels new!
  8. You are talking to an ex-Rover driver here, so I am well equipped for it already!
  9. Tyres! Scout ones are £185 each! Octavia turbo - £1500, Octavia DMF, £1billion. OK, with you on the fuel though.
  10. It's a second hand Volvo (pre-loved?). It's a right place/right time moment for the Volvo, been offered one by a friend at the right price & it has cream leather interior, cherry red metallic, all the goodies, etc. Too good to miss I am afraid. But I will miss the Scout!
  11. Got myself a Volvo XC70, my Scout has to go I am afraid. Cannot afford both. Have a look on classified, and hand me a box of kleenex, I think I am going to cry... My link
  12. Lo ts more pics here: My link Due to wanting an automatic, I have decided to sell my fabulous Skoda Octavia Scout 2.0 Turbo Diesel 4x4 estate. I have driven this car from brand new, having chosen it as my company car over many others I looked at then, including the Subaru, Mitsubishi, and Audi. Ironic really, because I am Scout leader as well! When the lease was up last year, I liked the car so much I purchased it off them. Glad I did as it has been faultless, economical, roomy, and there is now a 6 month waiting list for a new Octavia Scout! It is an ‘07 2007 (Registered July, a week before ‘57 as I needed it to go on holiday in August and didn’t know I was going to buy it in three years time), 2.0 Turbo Diesel estate in Satin Grey (which does not really describe the colour well at all, as it is a sort of beautiful blue/grey that really suits it), and has been a terrific car. It regularly does over 50mpg, has never been over 85mph (& then only fleetingly, never see the point really), and drives superbly. I had a detachable double socket towbar with a European 13 pin to 7 pin adapter put on before delivery, as I sometimes tow a 750kg Conway Cruiser folding caravan – less than half what the car is capable of. In fact, I have towed the Conway only about 6 times in the life of the car, and I have to concentrate to remember that there is something on the back as it tows with such ease. There is a multiplay CD player in the boot, and an MP3 jack in the air-conditioned centre console. It also has a CD slot in the dash itself, with a 6 speaker sound system that sounds excellent. The six speed gearbox means that sitting on the motorway at (in my case) around 70mph is not only easy & relaxing, but it is great seeing the LCD average MGP readout on the dash go well over 55 plus MPG. I have seen it hit over 60mpg at times, and that is the average, not the instant consumption. I tend to do country and small village driving and it averages 45 to 50mpg from fill-up to fill-up. Apart from the regular servicing it has always had, the only thing that has ever gone wrong in 72,000 miles is that the parking ticket plastic clip holder on windscreen has broken. And that was last month. If I could be bothered, I think they are about 72p. Other than that, that is about it really. No, seriously, I am not kidding. That is all. In 72,000 miles. And nearly five years. That is what motoring should be about, reliability! Mind you, I really look after my cars. Even knowing I am going to sell it, I will replaced the cambelt & water pump (July 14th, by the local Skoda garage) as per Skoda recommendation, which is a about the most expensive thing I have done with it at £400, but it has to be done and it means whoever buys it does not need to worry about any large expense for another 70k. They will MOT it at the same time as well. It will need taxing for August though. Now, I am a bit anal about my cars as my friends will testify, and this one does look as good as the day I picked it up, bar one small 2cm scratch on the drivers ‘A’ pillar where a flying stone from a lorry tyre hit it, and a small 5cm scuff on the front plastic arch cover where I tapped a wall reversing out of a very tight drive. I did that last month, and boy was I miffed about that! Other than that, the bodywork and interior is spotless. I challenge you to find a better one with a similar careful background and level of attention I have lavished upon this car. I will miss this car hugely, but I would really like an automatic now, and cannot afford a new Scout DSG, so have bought a Volvo XC70 auto. So, if you are looking for the best value for money 4x4 estate that looks almost brand-new, does around 50mpg, in a great colour and has been mollycoddled all it life, then stop searching and buy this one now. It is on e-bay as well (purely as an advertising medium) & I am looking for around £9850. If you want to have a look at the car, ring me on 07825 506681, or e-mail me on [email protected] and I will be only too glad to tell you about it. I will be putting some more photo’s up soon on Photobucket, I’ll keep you posted.
  13. Cares of Crowborough are an independent VW specialist, not the cheapest but not far off it, & certainly very good and very conscientious. Google it & speak to Gabby, & tell her Paul Rainbow recommended them to you. Caffyns will want over £450. Cares quoted me £400.
  14. I did exactly that a year ago with my 2007 Scout. Look at your monthly bills & tax allowance on your current set up. I was paying about £170 per month tax, which for a new car is good, but still about £2k PA cost. so I bought my Scout at the end of it's lease. Now I am claiming my fuel back it means I gain £250 per month after paying for the fuel. So I am about £400 a month better off buying my car. I worked out my annual running costs and calculated I would be about £4k a year better off, even after the loan for the car and the running costs. One tip, if you take an allowance you will be taxed on it, if you take pence per mile you do not pay tax and it is better for the company as well, tax wise.
  15. Just thought I would do a list to combat all this bad karma, man: An exhaust sensor, replaced under warranty two years ago The parking ticket windscreen clip broke about a month ago The wheel arch Scout trims are stuck on, and the rear one below the filler cap is now not sticky as the fuel dribbles down & overt the sticky stuff, it needs re-sticking. Two wheels are showing signs of going a bit iffy now. But not much. Er... Mmm.. Yep, that's it!
  16. What an excellent example of how far crash testing and R & D has taken us. If that had been a Cortina & an Austin 1300 the headlines would have been very different. That is where those millions go when developing a new car, and I thank them for it!
  17. It is the polished finish that suffers. As soon as you chip the lacquer, moisture gets underneath & corrodes the alloy. After 4 years & 71k my wheels are starting to look a bit rough too, but I don't know if a plain non-polished finish will look all that good.
  18. Ironic thing is, I am a Scout leader. So no chance of mickey taking there then. Good to see you have the same excellent taste as me, London Les.
  19. I suspect that Satin Grey one was me. I have an '07 pre face lift, and have only seen one other in Satin and that was not around Tunbridge Wells.
  20. Someone must be getting deliveries because I have seen at least 5 over the last week around Tunbridge Wells & Tonbridge, and not just the same one either. Saw two one one short trip. Seen a bright red one which didn't suit it (I thought), a dark grey one, a dark green one, and the others where grey & silver. Seen a few Yetis around as well now. Is it just me, or are there now more on the road?
  21. My scout diesel specifically states that biodiesel should not be used. It reminds you again under the fuel flap. I tried the more expensive stuff for a couple of tanks and noticed no difference, so just tend to fill up at the cheapest places now.
  22. Ah yes, I fear we are all doomed. On the plus side, cleaning the windscreen inside is a darn site easier, so I shall not lob it over Beachy Head just yet.
