Hello all
I am the happy new owner of a 2014 manual E5 1.8 TSI Octavia.
It is running pretty well, but there are 2 issues - related, I think - that I want to submit to your invaluable experience of this car.
1. Strange idle behavior:
When the engine is warm and I stop at a light or in front of my house before backing up in the garage, I have noticed that it doesn't idle at a steady 800-ish rpm. Instead, it will surge to 1500 then go back down, then up again once or twice and then most of the time it will calm down and remain at standard 800.
2. Vibrations when fully pressing accelerator between 2000 and 3000 rpm:
Whatever gear is engaged, whenever I fully press the gas pedal between 2000 and 3000rpm, I get vibrations. It feels a bit like misfires. It gradually decreases in intensity when closing up to 3000 rpm and then stops above that (or at least feels like it doesπ€·ββοΈ)
What I have done so far:
- brand new air filter
- oil change
- 4 new spark plugs
- 4 new coils
- booked an appointment with Skoda for next week.
My opinion -> It feels like a lean condition to me.
Thanks to you guys and this great forum, I know this can be caused by a PCV failure. So I did the diagnose test that I heard about here: I removed the oil cap and dipstick with a running engine (not both at the same time).
Here is what it does on my car -> Idle goes up a lot and immediately. And goes back to normal as soon as dipstick or oil cap are placed back.
Now, I am not sure what that means. On the EA188 engine, does this actually indicate a failing PCV or the opposite? I am not sure.
I could of course change it anyway. It cannot hurt. But as a rule, I hate throwing new parts at a car based on a hunch and just hope it might fix it. It feels silly and frustrating to me.
So here I am
Sorry for such a long first post and thank you for any advice.
