  1. Hmmm ...Thanks for the good advice guys. There are those that confident on doing jobs on there Skodas and there are those who have not got a clue. I don`t have a garage, all my repairs are done on the road outside my house that is narrow and on a hill. (Last week doing a gaitor on the steering rack, I put my toolbox a foot away from my car so cars don`t run over me as they struggle to get past, it`s that sort of set-up for me ) I have asked my brother to help but he is going away on holiday this weekend and so he`s very busy. I`ve asked friends in the trade that say get rid and don`t waste your money as it might not pass on the re-test. If I throw a couple of hundred quid at it and it does not pass then that could have gone to another car. Its worth just selling some parts off it to others that might be useful. I have a bike to go to work on and hey it`s summer I can walk there. It`s not over and out `cos I might find another Felly to replace this one. ttfn Circlip
  2. Wahey !!! Thanks for all your replies. Walking the dog took a lot longer than I thought it would. So my main concern is the brakes and emissions and will take a look at what Jorily has to offer as well as fleebay for the sensor, thanks anewman. I had look at my headlight and also found a neat thread on the subject last night with photos. MOT tester did say get a Bosch sensor and not an alternative sort of copy as they don`t work. Brake pipes and hoses are going to be a headache for me. So I need to replace or scrape the rust off and somehow grease them up, well thats what i`ve found on here as a remedy and someones managed to get an MOT ... though maybe not in the UK. What would be the cost of doing the brakes or better to let a garage fix them???. This is the deciding point at how am I gonna do this job outside my house on the road or just scrap the car. I`ll tot up what this is all gonna cost and make a decision. I`m thinking out loud here and so i`ll have a brew and come on Pup it`s not raining outside. Cheers Circlip
  3. Ow my gawd. :rotz: Out of the list of 14 things that need fixing, 9 of them are the brake pipes or the hoses on all but one that need doing .... might as well do `em all at once. :( Front Registration plate deteriorated. For some reason my nearside headlight is too low !!! Offside rear wheel bearing feels rough when rotated ... easy to fix Exhaust emissions carbon monoxide after 2nd fast idle excessive. Exhaust emissions Lambda reading after 2nd fast idle outside specified limits. I`ve got a week to sort these problems or I think i`m gonna scrap it ... So fellow Felly owners, I know where to start, i`ll go and take the dog for a walk. Will be back later.
  4. Hi to you all, My MOT is due begining of July and I need a bit of advice please. I have noticed a steering gaitor has split just close to the bulkhead, looking in the engine bay to the left ... I think I know what i`m talking about :rotz: ... and have bought a set to replace. With Haynes manual at hand it says I have to remove Track Rod Balljoint and this I need some advice. Firstly, I can feel a clunk more than hear a clunk through my steering wheel. I have checked the suspension for leaks and for broken or missing rubber bushes around the suspension strut and springs, pressed hard on front wings to check everything returns to normal. I see no damage. It would be great if there was a exploded diagram but with a Haynes manual you don`t. :( Should I replace Track Rod Balljoint and bushes, If so how many? Second, spark plugs, I got a set of Bosch FR7 DC+ off Jorily do I set them the same as Champion as described in my Haynes manual 0.8mm. Thanks in advance, Circlip
  5. Yes KenO`Neill K-Seal is a sealant. Well, i`m off to work on the bike today as i`ve been fettling with that for a week or so and it`s nice and sunny here ... for now ... It`s really just to make sure everything is Ok with my Felicia. As when it`s gets cold and freezing I will chicken out and go to work in the car. Cheers Circlip
  6. I`ve had to change my coolant today because i`ve got a leak. It`s the cylinder head gasket somewhere and it has not been giving problems with the engine. Just a little steam when stationary at traffic lights. Loss of water in expansion tank over a month but no discolouration of water in expansion tank tells me it`s only a minor leak ... i`ve topped it up to the lower marker on tank. Though someone will tell me different ... :( Anyway ... Capacities, i`ve had a look in my Skoda Owners Manual and Haynes manual, it says 6 litres (approx.) Skoda Manual and the same in Haynes 6 ltrs. Now daft as it might seem i`ve emptied the system and only got 5 litres out so i`ve tried to put the same back in and only managed to get in just over 4 litres. Now silly me put K-Seal in the anti-freeze mixture and for a 50/50 mix it`s 2.5 litres of the pink stuff. So plain old tap water only gets 1.6 or 1.7 litres. I`ve read something about cavitation of anti-freeze if solution if too lean or 100% not at all. So now i`m worried ... :Yikes: :( Do I try to run the engine and hope for the best, as it`s a Skoda and it rarely breaks down. I feel that help will be on it`s way soon.
  7. Phew!!! My Felicia passed the M.O.T. this morning. I got it there just on time as it was booked in for 8.30am. Thought i`d give it a thrash and warmed it up and clear it`s nose....if you see what I mean. It was like waiting for an arrival of a baby....and I don`t have any kids.... .... it was not looking good at first becauce it failed on one part but he waited 3 mins and tried again and then passed on 2nd and 3rd parts of emissions test. I have some nails left at least on my right hand..... Thanks to all who gave suggestions as to what I should do. Untill next time ... ttfn ... Circlip
  8. Ok! Jobs that i`ve done today, yesterday I worked to get some extra cash. New air filter, tappits checked and there were a few that were out of the correct clearances...my friend helped me out on the rule of 9 ....still.... ! Well I do understand the rule of nine but it`s just that I could not understand the basic setting up of the valve clearances. New centre-box and back-box part of exhaust fitted outside my house on the road, will need to get some new contact rubber things. I`m taking a chance on not replacing the Cat. The centre section of exhaust was holed at the top of the pipe and the back-box (where the water escape hole is) was perforated slightly, so i`m hoping that will be enough...:(. Felicia is booked in for a check-up on the lambda sensor and will ask if a D-Tox fuel system cleaner as it might benifit a clean-out of everything. That`s all for now folks, thanks for all your suggestions. M.O.T. by the end of the week....
  9. Hmmm...looks like i`ve got lots to do and so I had a look through my Haynes manual to see what I can do without taking it to a garage. I did a repair on the centre box of exhaust before M.O.T. but it was also puffing out at the rear box underneath. It`s like it should be there to let water out though I maybe wrong. Anyway, i`ve got a friend that works for an exhaust manifacture and for £65 for a full exhaust system...without the CAT, do I need the CAT??? How easy is it to remove the lambda sensor, basically i`m prone to knacker that up and not too keen on undoing the bolts on manifold/exhaust !!! As for has it been serviced, erm no not by me. Had the Felicia a year and changed the oil and filter, air filter. Just had a look and air filter was squished up at one side...me not fitting it right last year...hohumm everything is fastened down tightly though, one on order to replace ! I will (try to) do the valve clearances at the weekend as they seems to be a little ratterly to me. :( A new temp sender is something I thought I should have done when changing thermostat so will order one anyway. It`s just the exhaust that worries me and do I need a catalytic converter as it would be more efficient in the long run. Well, i`m off on Sunday and Monday so will get on with some fettling and let you know how I get on. Thanks to all replies, Circlip
  10. Well, I thought i`d pass onto you what the M.O.T. tester said to me and see if you can come up with anything. He really has no idea where to start looking and it will be next week if/when he can do the work!!! First it`s a Felicia 1.3 LXi Plus, I know it`s a SPi engine, 65,000 miles on the clock. Replaced thermostat yesterday and now temp gauge now works. It`s failed on... 001 Exhaust emissions carbon monoxide content after 2nd fast idle excessive 002 Exhaust emissions hydrocarbon content after 2nd fast idle excessive 003 Centre rear exhaust system has part of the system excessively deteriorated I have enquired about a new exhaust system and not sure if I need a catalyst exhaust or not, would that help my poor emissions or not??? I have the emissions read out if someone understands what it all means... it reads MIN.MAX. Meas. Result Oil Temperature *C 80 _ _ _ OK Cooling Fan Fast idle test ... Fail Engine speed /min 2458 2850 2630 Pass CO % 0.30 0.32 Fail HC ppm 200 84 Pass Lambda 0.97 1.03 1.079 Fail 2.Fast idle test Engine spead /min 2450 2850 2540 Pass HC ppm 200 15 Pass Lambda 0.97 1.03 1.086 Fail Natur.Idle Test Pass Engine speed /min 700 900 820 Pass CO % 0.50 0.35 Pass Exhaust Emissions Test Overall Result FAILED I have no experience or knowledge on how to fix this, just hope someone knows what it all means and what I have to do to get it through the M.O.T. Cheers Circlip
  11. Thanks anewman, Yes it would be a good idea to flush the system. But the coolant is clean and does smell of anti-freeze. Would have hoped to just to bolt the thermostat on and get it through the M.O.T. I`ll have to see how I get on with tomorrow fettling before I go to work. Cheers Circlip
  12. After nearly a week of trying to find which engine is in my Felicia LXi Plus, I now know what to look for as in parts and fixing the thermostat. Hopefully fix a poorly running car (only occasionlly) and get the temp gauge to work. :( Is it just a quick take off the old one and replace with a new whole body of the thermostat ? Will just have time to do that tomorrow morning before M.O.T. on Thursday...
  13. Well daverapid you know your stuff about all the letters on the rear of my car and whats stamped on the engine. It has taken me nearly a week to sort out what engine is in my car, Felicia LXi 136B, though what the PLUS means after LXi must be something to do with interia trim. Thanks Circlip
  14. Thanks for your replies folks, I`ve booked my Felicia in for it`s M.O.T. on Thursday and feel confident that it might pass....??? Just one more question i`ll put on another thread. Cheers Circlip
  15. Ah! Good news... Thats good news that it will pass with the faults. M.O.T. booked for Thursday morning. Cheers Circlip
