Issue with my Octavia e-tec - won’t surf/eco
THANKS! Problem hopefully finally solved. Took two longer drives and tried using the brake much more than I normally do. And in my final five minutes of todays drives the function kicked in again. Was so pleased seeing the eco symbol pop up and feel the car coasting again.

Issue with my Octavia e-tec - won’t surf/eco
So a small update to this issue. - eco/coasting works for first few minutes. - when it stops working I noticed the rpm jump up in a twitch, kind of like it’s activating sport mode (but it’s clearly not) - if I stop at a red light etc the auto stop/start works as it should - if I turn the car off for a few minutes it works again for the first few minutes - have been taking a few long drives, have been braking much more than I normally do, including some heavy short braking. It doesn’t seem to change anything In the manual I can read that “if the car notice no gear is needed it will go to neutral and freerolling will start, and the eco symbol will be shown. On e-etc models it will also go in to auto start/stop and turn the engine off” My cars normal behaviour is like this.

How much do you think I would need to drive around braking to get it working again?

yes, that’s correct. I meant coasting.

Thanks for your reply @timster I guess I brake some but not a lot. The weird thing is that the coasting function works for the first 5 mins or so every time I go for a ride, but then it never reappears. And the car engine brakes every time I take my foot off the gas. I don’t have any driving mode options so that shouldn’t be it. I just drove for a total of 45 mins, low and high speeds, some breaking etc. And the car shows the same strange behaviour. Also, if battery was drained shouldn’t there be a warning light for this? I feel that the normal behaviour, even with a low battery, is that if I take my foot off the gas it should go in to neutral as the manual states. And if it has battery power it turns the engine off. Or am I wrong in this assumption?

Issue with my Octavia e-tec - won’t surf/eco
Hi! I’ve had my new Octavia 110 e-tec for two months. It’s been working perfectly, but today it started behaving in a weird way. Normally when I take my foot from the gas it goes into eco mode/surfing by either lowering the rpms to like 1000 or totally turning the engine off. It has been working fine doing this both in high and low speeds. It’s been a great way to keep my fuel consumption low. But today it stopped doing this and instead kept the rpms noticeably higher at around 2000 rpms and it was more like it is using the engine to break, like you would with an old manual car. So it drops speed pretty quickly. The first few minutes it worked like normal but after that the function never kicked in again. I tried four different trips and the car behaved the same on all trips. Talked to the shop and they had no suggestion since no warning lamps were lit. I even talked to the the mobility people (that would possibly come tow the car for a check up) and all they could think of is that it does this to recharge the battery. But this seems weird to me since it haven’t done this at all for the two months I’ve had it. And also since the eco mode/surfing never kicked in again. My only guess is that the battery used for this is drained. But why would it be, and why would it work for the first few minutes and then stop working never to resume again (until I start a new trip)? Anyone have any suggestion for me? Will not be able to have it looked at until next week since it’s Easter. Thanks!
