  1. Whilst the saloon is no 'looker', it's not as bad as people make out(in the right colours). The lip spolier helps to take away some of the back-end ugliness..imo If you don't truly need the estate, why pay more for it? I'd seriously consider the lower cost option.. Simon
  2. Before mine was stolen (twice!!) they used to take less than a minute..I now have an aftermarket solution with removeable screen..
  3. +1. seems to be no pattern or logic as to when it half reclines in mine
  4. Does AFS only work with the switch set to auto then? thx simon
  5. I went the pacific blue route....not an estate... http://picasaweb.google.com/culcreuch11/SkodaSuperb2ndMarch2009?authkey=Gv1sRgCIu0rJP09u7eOQ&feat=directlink#5308701024270517618 not mine, but you get the idea.. Simon
  6. The first time I had xenon was on my mk5 GTI..and I thought the same thing (lighthouses etc)..until many people on the road were flashing me...(to be fair the light on DIPPED beam was just incredible and there was even more to be had on main beam!).. I popped in the dealer and they hadn't set the lights up properly at the pre-delivery inspection(!)..so it was on a default factory setting causing the beam pattern to be wrong. It might be worth getting yours checked.. cheers Simon
  7. How about carrying chains as required by law but using socks when you absolutely need to? I have18" and continental ts810 winter tyres..but also have the benefit of the 4x4..so I carry chains(when heading to austria etc) but I doubt I'll ever have to use them.. (just as well considering the 18" handbook comments of no chains!..and no, I haven't practised fitting them to see if they do fit as I have a very hard time thinking there'll be situations that the winter tyres+4x4 won't manage)
  8. If you're going to order it with columbus I'd certainly order an alrm to go with it. I've had 2 columbus systems stolen in the last 3 months..so I guess that means there's a way of circumnavigating the inbuilt 'so-called' security :(
  9. an often asked question... http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/117938-howto-get-rsap-working-with-the-columbus-rns510-using-a-non-compatible-mobile/page__st__60__p__2077621__hl__blackberry__fromsearch__1entry2077621
  10. Thanks to all for the suggestions/comments. I live in Amsterdam and it's the first break-in trouble I've had in 12 years..and that includes 4 years of Scooby WRX ownership and 4 years of mkV GTI ownership! :( I'll certainly consider the steering lock too..but what a pain each time. I've also considered taking a picture of the empty space after the first time..now I'm really considering it..though I need to be careful, if I go non-OEM then they might think an OEM system is hidden behind the cover, if they can detect it.. I'll have a look at the AVIC, thanks
  11. Does anybody know the option in the Columbus system that stops thieving basXXXds from stealing my Columbus system twice in as many months? I wonder why VW don't build in effective security to prevent them being used elsewhere? ok, rant over...need to start looking for a non-oem solution to my music and navigation shortage..one that has effective security, hopefully preventing further break-in's...
  12. I have a 1.8tsi 4x4..but I also fit winter tyres every year for multiple snowboarding trip per year. A FWD with winter tyres will get further than 4x4 with summer tyres when on snow and ice. 4x4 will provide extra traction in icy conditions but it won't help you stop and/or go around corners. Winter tyres provide increased grip fopr acceleration, braking and cornering.
  13. Mine does the same, I guess that's the standard setting(?) cheers
  14. Assuming you want the phone to pair with the columbus..? If so, you're out of luck..the pearl doesn't have RSAP. I had the very same problem when I got my superb and am now using a curve. There are many other postings on the pairing topic. Cheers Simon
  15. Probably the best choice..winter tyres on 2wd are more effective than standard tyres on 4wd anyway, so go for the best of both worlds
  16. I had DSG in my mk5 GTI, before switching to the Superb and thought it was great. The move to the Superb gave me the choice..and I went with the manual & 4x4, a choice I still stand by to make my life easier (safer) on my multiple snowboarding trips per year to Austria (from NL). With winter tyres and 4x4 I can't imagine a situation where I will ever need to use chains again. Sure manual transmission isn't as easy as DSG but I've been driving manuals for 20+ years anyway so the change back wasn't a deal breaker for me. I guess it really depends on how often you think the 4x4 will be useful to you and then value you place on that. good luck with the choice.
  17. I had similar problems, go search for a previous posting/response from me on this topic for what I did to make it fianlly work. Mine's been working now for about 10 months. take a look at.. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/124952-compatible-phones/ cheers
  18. I fitted continental ContiWinterContact TS830's to mine onto the original 18" rims and it's been fine so far...but I also have the advantage of the 4x4 too. Can (literally) run rings around cars without winter tyres. Sure they cost extra, but in the mean time you're not using your normal tyres. I put them on in December and will take them back off at the end of March (when the snowboarding trips are finished)
  19. I have exactly the same problems as Richf, in the beginning it used to work approx 75% of the time..and now in the same sort of circumstances it only works less than 25% of the times I turn it on..which I'm doing more of a test of the system than a need for it to work. It's frustrating but I'll just have it looked at when it goes in for its first service at 30k KM
  20. Here's a video commercial.... Skoda Superb Combi | Video - AutoWeek.nl
  21. as far as i know I'm the only non-V6 4x4 Superb driver on the forum, but I drive a 1.8tfsi. Can't comment on the 4x4 qualities yet, need to wait for the skiing season and Austria.... Simon
  22. The curve appears to work (though "not supported" when I wanted help from my dealer) check http://briskoda.net/superb-ii/tearing-my-hair-out-compatible-phones/143267/ for some extra tips. Mine's been working for the last month again...so far....
  23. Jimbo, OMG, that's fantastic!!!!! I've using a curve and didn't update my firmware or anything..BUT have just been able to re-connect to the Superb and downloaded my contact list etc. I think the magic of your solution is in putting the BB into listening mode..that's the only thing new that I did..but so far, so good.... as for your reward..unfortunately, I have no clue to either of your questions. Is the beep on open/close just inside the car or external like when setting a car alarm etc? cheers Simon
  24. Perhaps it's me being really stupid (no comments please...)..but I can't see how to load music onto the columbus hard drive from CD's.... I can't see it in the user guide (in Dutch, I'm in NL), nor can I find/see the copy/download/store/etc buton etc when I'm playing a CD... Another classic case of user error?? thx in advance
