  1. Thank you so much for the replies. I will book it in for service and suggest they check the catalytic converter- as it is getting worse and the warranty is for 3 years I hope this means that it is covered. Regards
  2. About a month ago my 1 year old octy vrs started sounding like its exhaust was blowing. This is most noticeable when warm/after a fast drive and traveling at higher speed. In addition since this, there is a distinct lack of power. This is very noticeable in third gear when I get much less oomph between 1800 and 2200 revs. I had rac look at it and he said it may have been just a damaged baffle as to the noise. Dealer has looked at the car but says there are no fault codes hence no problems. Servicer leader test drove the car and said he didn't notice it flat or noisy and that it was fast- but he did say he normally drives diesels so no surprise to me there. Yes it is fast but NOT AS fast as it was and it is noisy as anything at higher speeds and I notice very much the lack of power. Its embarrassing sounding like an old cavalier sri or 1.3 fiesta with big bore exhaust. Now thinking of just punting the car and going for something else but I like the octy especially the blue colour. Anyone any idea or had similar experience. I feel that the engine is not breathing properly or the gas is not circulating to turbo properly. Still have 2 years warranty but don't want to wait for this to get worse or to have to put up with it. Now says it needs a service in 1600 miles (done 9000 miles) but this could just be cos I drive it hard. The service manager said that the first service should be 20000 miles.
  3. Pretty terrible experience each time. Last year wanted a vrs- blue one with my trimmings- but they said i couldn't get the deal offered by Skoda (still 2 months to run) cos it would be 3 month wait for factory build. Said they were gettin 2x 1 year olds in soon so I could test maybe buy. Eventually they got in an estate and after that changed their minds 3 times about the other they were gettin in. I was only interested in hatch but test drove the estate, with wife in tow. mandy insisted on coming along and kept trying to get me to go out onto dual carriageway instead of testing in town. After a wee while I gave the accelerator a blip as I went down a bendy road and was told to take it back to the show room immediately. They weren't offering great trade in either and seemed completely uniterested in my money even for a new sale. I bought my 07 VRS (blue hatch) in Wigan and was happy with it. But broke down 4 months ago with no electrics- skoda assist were good but had to put car into specialist cars for repair. They reset everything and put in a new airbag sensor and told me if it SHOULD be OK, but bring it in if further problems. I asked what further problems could occur other than told electric failure again. Since then drivers console stays illuminated after key out I call about this immediately and was told they would talk to a skoda regionla techgnician and would get back to me, but still waiting. Now the exhaust sounds like it is blowing (after 8300 miles) but after taking it to exhaust place there is no external problems and was advised to take it to dealer. I phoned them and after an hour and a half of phoning them I eventually talked to service reception depsite being promised twice they would call me back. Could not get anyone to look at car for NINE DAYS and was advised not to drive car. I booked in car and called Skoda customer services (who were great). They advised gettin skoda assist to send out AA to see if it was undriveable and if it was I shluld get a courtesy car. RAC guy says exhaust OK but seems to be a warped baffle or somthing like it but is fine to drive. After reading this I think I will put it to garage in Maud. Specialist cars are just not worth it.
  4. Wow, thanks for all the replies My tyres say Dunlop Sport 01A and were all at the correct pressure, 30, but this am I notice they are all slightly under about 29.5 which I will deal with but I thought this would help with grip just wear out the edges quicker. I have now doen 1200 miles in the car (most of this on the way back from first getting the car) but the tyres look new appart from the back tyre outer edges looking a little worn already. Is it worth me getting the alignment looked at or am I just being paranoid about my tyres and handling?
  5. Hello- first post so be gentle if you think my questions are already covered here- I have read what I can... My local dealer quoted me a 3 month wait for vrs that I wanted and I had a fall out with them over my test driving style so I travelled 450 miles to get Octavia VRS race blue first reg 31st March 2007, I bought early May, but... car has no mp3 player jack in jumbo pack so phoned Skoda for build date- April 2006 ! I would like to play mp3s instead of cds, so tried mp3 disc in upfront cd player but get the message pc rom. I thought the upfront player supported mp3s- is this just cars built after mine as per the mp3 jack in jumbo pack? So thought I could just do my own jack in via an aux input. Reading forum suggests it could be done but I would need to get out the front console and buy a jack in hub/plug. As I am very clumsy and things usually break in my hands it would be easier to get a dealer to do it (although this will involve a treck cos I don't want to go to my local dealer after the telling off I got for driving/cornering fast/hard). How feasible is this and much would it likely cost for a dealer to add a connection wire to the hub at the back of the player and would this work OK. Also I am having a hell of a problem with wheel spin- absolutely terrible in the wet, so much so that a 2.2 signum burnt me off at lights ! It is also pretty bad even in slightly damp conditions on hills. I have managed to spin wheels whilst accelerating from 40 mph in 3rd gear- admitedly this was a bit exciting but I really hate it when it happens and I don't think I'm hoofing it. I had a gsi vectra before and never had problems with wheel spin. Admitedly I am taking a while to get used to the "organ/tractor" pedal. However is there any way I can help to train myself to avoid the worst of the wheel spin. Would changing the tyres help- the ones on it are factory fitted (I presume) standard Dunlops. I know I am heavy footed but even when I don't thump the foot down I am having bother. Also does anyone else feel the car doesn't like cornering at full tilt. When at speed on even gradual bends I feel the back of the car is not running with the front. Perhaps the steering is just too precise from what I had before but I don't feel as comfortable at higher speeds as I did with other cars. It feels that the back is sluggish which I can't fathom because surely all the weight of the car is at the front despite having such a big back end. Thanks for taking the time to read this.....
