  1. So the 06 MK2 elegance sailed though it's MOT this week with only a single advisory for a rusty rear subframe. I have treated with lanoguard which appears to have halted further rust around the frame/arms etc so will keep up a once yearly treatment. Also managed to inject lots of lanoguard into both sills through the rubber bungs which will hopefully stop it rusting from the inside out. The external sills have a couple of light rust patches but still v solid and also a tiny bit appearing around the wheel arch lips. I'd like to remove the plastic undertrays and arch liners to treat these areas too. Has anyone done this? Worried what I might find and also whether it'll be a massive ball ache to get them on/off. Will mean a jack/axle stands too. Expect I'll need new screws all round as doubt they'll be in a fit state to re-use. If anyone knows the size/type I would need to order that would be much appreciated!
  2. We paid just over 2k for a 2006 2 litre diesel elegance last year- BKD engine with the DSG box and 90K. This era doesn't have a DPF to worry about. Economy is great- hit 59mpg on our run to Somerset the other week. The old boy who had it looked after it well with lots of receipts etc. Sailed through its MOT this week at 97k with only an advisory for rear subframe corrosion (which I've treated and hopefully significantly slowed down) To look at it's boring and plain Jane but maybe the safer bets are the less exciting models?
  3. Same car as you, same issue. No fault codes and nothing obvious so I live with it. Mine only does it in park or neutral- in drive it's fine. I figure for a car worth about 2k it's not worth chasing minor faults although it is irritating!
  4. All looks good. Re the drop damage do you mean the scratches? Look forward to seeing how it all goes together, are you fitting it yourself? I applied the lanoguard to my pretty badly rusted axle and suspension parts a few months ago and it appears to have halted any further corrosion- could be a good bet on new parts to keep them tip top, especially if the paint is compromised.
  5. I'd be tempted with that kit for mine tbh if it gets condemned come MOT time. Has to be better than used an rusty parts. If you buy it then treat once yearly with lanoguard - can inject the axle and it should keep it looking good for the rest of the life of the car
  6. Browsing eBay I came across this Octy MK2. Only a few months older than mine but never seen rust like it?! Is this to be expected for all of them in due course? Mine has a little on one sill and the odd tiny blister. I have pumped both sills full of lanoguard to hopefully keep it at bay as long as possible. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185796682982?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=bBJq1NtKQQa&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=cUmldqScSL2&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
  7. No I havent- I assumed the last mot would have picked that up? I'll drop my mechanic a line see if he can do that for me. I didn't realise until I Google searched how rubbish the MK2 lights are sadly!
  8. Evening folks The headlights on my MK2 Sport are pretty poor. Especially on country roads. Assuming this is the same with the Mk2s across the board? Can anyone recommend a reliable upgraded bulb? Mixed reviews online so be great to hear any recommendations here 👍
  9. Looking online I think it's the same as the golf etc so plenty around on eBay. I used lanoguard on mine- all came up v well so hopefully will halt the corrosion . Injected all the sills too. Can't the screws be replaced? Where are they as can't imagine they are on the subframe itself?
  10. Morning folks My mechanic commented to me that the underside of my 06 estate was pretty rusty.... Had a look and the rear axle looks pretty crusty! Whilst I will wire brush it and treat it I wondered if anyone knew whether a new replacement can be obtained or whether I would need secondhand? Otherwise much of the rear floor pan is covered by plastic panels so not sure what it will look like underneath.... Will try some lanoguard and inject it wherever I can as I'd like to get as long as possible out of the car.
  11. Sorry just seen this! Ah how frustrating for you, bet you were gutted! Great to hear how well they go on though - really enjoying it so far. It's the wife's runabout and so much better than her old fiat 500!
  12. Drove 120 miles each way today for our 58 plate Fabia 1.9TDI Sport. It's awesome! Over 50mpg on the way home and v comfy and torquey. I don't think there are a huge amount of these about? Feel like it may be a future classic ha! Only 60K on the clock too and a massive folder of history. Just need to sort out the speakers as they are pretty shocking compared to my Octy MK2!
  13. Thanks matey! Deal done and deposit down. He's fitting the whole kit. Car looks mega tidy!
  14. Thank you for such a helpful reply. I think I am leaning towards the older sport. It looks immaculate and only 60k on it. £450 difference in price so although the Monte Carlo is 4 years younger I am thinking the sport 1.9 TDI is the better buy. The Monte Carlo also needs a door painting due to a few scratches. The TDI is due a cambelt which the dealer will have sorted included in the price which is handy.
  15. Afternoon Folks I have narrowed my Fabia choices down to a 2012 Monte Carlo 1.2TSI 86bhp ith 70k or a 2008 1.9TDI sport with 60k identical colour and interior on both- the Monte Carlo has more black out bits though. Struggling to work out which to buy? V similar money- the sport needs a cambelt doing which is an onwards consideration but any advice on which to buy would be really handy!
