  1. excellent should have thought of the 'outside the box and roll of sellotape' approach to car maintenance cheers
  2. funny you should suggest that, but it was exactly the quote from a colleague at work!!
  3. the magnet was not strong enough, but taking the light fitting off did the trick..bit tricky getting to two of the bolts but got there in the end and all good.
  4. will try that at the weekend also thanks
  5. Thanks for that, just got to find a magnet that will do the trick..1) fit through the hole and 2) hold the bulb..
  6. oops..whilst replacing the brake light the other day I failed to notice that when I took it out the clip that holds it in place had bent so when I fitted the new bulb and put the unit back the bulb fell out into the light fitting. I have bent it back in place and fitted a futher new bulb but there is a perfectly good bulb rattling around in the light fitting, I feel a complete numpty for not checking the fitting before refixing it ..I don't need replies to confirm numpty status! Can anyone give advice as to how I may get the bulb out of the light fitting without breaking both the bulb and the light fitting?? Thanks
  7. cleaned the EGR valve and refitted, diagnostic all clear..so the solution in my mind to code P0402 is clean the EGR valve, cheaper than buying a new one..
  8. latest advice I've been given is that the EGR valve can be removed and cleaned as it is likely to have 'gunk' in it and by doing this it will remove the fault on the diagnostics and get rid of the yellow engine symbol from lighting up on the dashboard....will report back when I have done this....hopefully this will be the solution..
  9. been having a fault with the timing on the fabia (52 plate & 26k miles) and the diagnostic reported fault P0402 EGR flow excessive, and been advised I need a new EGR unit. is this right and does anyone know whether this will be expensive to put right?? thanks
  10. just got back from a drive after my fabia 1 passed it's mot and the engine management system light has come on. thinking it needs a diagnostic check and Possible replacement any ideas on the costs for either of these and can the car be driven whilst the light is on? it is a 52 plate and has almost 26k on the clock any tips you can give would be appreciated thanks
  11. should be there, especially as it's only down the road!
  12. can cruise control be retro-fitted to a fabia 1.4 petrol, 52 plate. if so how much would I expect to pay for the part and fitting? can the fitting be done by a none-skoda garage/mechanic (coventry area) or is it best fitted by the dealer? thanks
  13. have managed to find out key functions by trial and error (suppose should have done this in the first place!) and a friend who has the same unit, so saved the mileage of going to the dealer
  14. another newbie to the skoda club, purchased a 1.4 elegence from Alex Lawrie in Liverpool a week or so ago and well pleased with the service from them so far and also the car
  15. Can anyone help with where to get an instruction manual for the symphony cd player as I have acquired one without the instruction book, faux pas I know but in hope that someone can help..
