Hi all,
After lurking about this site for a while, I'm a bit lost trying to find out how to upgrade my head unit to something which has slightly more functunality.
I have a 2013 Skoda Octavia Elegance mark3. It comes with a 5.6" head unit and multimedia player in the glove box. Although the headunit has bluetooth as has most of the features I need. What I really want is a bigger screen and to be able to use android apps such as google maps/waze etc. Skoda does come preloaded with GPS and maps but it is crap and really outdated by todays standards, which is my main reason for wanting to upgrade. I have been looking at some chinese tablet style upgrades ( i know they are mixed reviews on here) but Pioneer/Sony etc can get stuffed with their ridiculous £700quid offerings. Whereas the Chinese Teyes unit or similar I have seen for about £300ish - not to shabby in my opinion. Unfortunatly for my car type and headunit version I can never seem to find a listing which shows compatibility with my car head unit type. 5E0035874A.
1) If I were to somehow find a bigger screen of the same type would i be able to plug and play it as a straight swap without having any restrictive coding issues to overcome? If so, i would then just buy an android box and fit it behind the glove box and i'll be sorted.
2) A few folk seem to have upgraded to MIB 2.5 - which i presume is the latest and greatest can this be done from my humble position of MIB without paying £1k.
I am keen not to overspend on this upgrade as due to ULEZ being expanded in London next year I will probably have to sell and upgrade to a newer car, hence I just want to have that google maps function and enjoy the car while I can, as generally speaking im quite happy with it otherwise.
Your help is very much appreciated. I have added some photos if it helps.
