  1. Not sure if you are still interested but I think this procedure is described in pictures on tdiclub.com Fred's TDI Page. TDIClub.com. VW TDI Enthusiast Community Has anyone found this procedure fixes warm startup problems? Thanks, Andy
  2. HmmM! Good to see people enjoy their smokey dirty diesels. Mine has failed the previous 2 smoke tests for the MOT and had to have some form of treatment. I'm not sure if this is the MOT testers not letting it get up to temperature. Was at about 4.5 - 5. Just wondering if I should worry about this. The garage give me the standard advice of driving it hard, but I usually don't really hang around. I wondered if it is related to the warm starting problem I've had? Anyone got any ideas? Andy
  3. I had a similar problem which I think is fixed. I'm holding onto lots of wood here!! I'd come back to the car and all the doors on which the winder mechanisms still work (that would be 2 :-) had opened themselves and the car was unlocked. It simply needed a door lock repair kit from the main dealer. I did have an extra clue in that my drivers door lock didn't work properly, basically the door lock was not returning to the centre position correctly therefore the door was unlocked. Hope this info is helpful to somebody. Andy
  4. Hi, Just had a search around and can't find any info. I wondered if anybody had managed to refit the locking ring once it's dropped out due a long lock replacement/swop scenario. I took the blanking plate out from my rear door and left it for 2 weeks and now I have come to refit it I just can't understand how the locking ring works. The torx screw which I used to remove the blanking plate is still correctly located. I am also replacing the window winder so I have already removed the door card and the window winder mechanism. What I have is a zinc plated 3/4 circular thing and I just cannot understand how this fits together. If anybody can explain this or point me in the direction of an existing post that would be great. Obviously I am a little reluctant to investigate the other doors too much incase I should break them too! Thanks, Andy
  5. As an update, I got into the door. Some needle-nose pliers and a very very firm grip on said pliers shifted the various little screws round the door card (this took considerable patience and was really annoying), with fairly minimal damage to the end of the door card. Gonna wait till I've borrowed a haynes manual before I tackle replacing the cable. Thanks for your comments. Andy
  6. Hi There, Interesting problem. The door on my octavia will not open. I think judging by the lack of resistance on the door handle that the cable has snapped or worked off somehow. The outer door handle is completely locked. Now I can't actually get the trim off to get in the car. Does anybody have any ideas. It's the 99 model with key activated central locking and electric windows. Has anyone done anything similar. Thanks, Andy
