I have an odd problem and I am looking for ideas.
I replaced my turbo yesterday*, finished today after lack of light stopped play and it all went well except for a lot of fiddling to refit the heat shield.
Today on a test drive it worked as expected but I got a battery warning light on the dash and then I lost all power, luckily a few yards from my house. I coasted to my house, put it on a charge and started up.
Measured at the alternator, there is no voltage. The battery light lights up on turning the key then goes off on starting but comes back after a minute or two. .
All I can think is that I have damaged the sensor wire as this is very close to the heat shield. It is possible that I have pulled it fitting the shield?
If that is the case I can easily splice in a new one but does this sound like a sensor wire issue?
Pulling the connector off changes nothing.
It could be a coincidental failure of the alternator but it seems like a cause and effect failure to me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
* surprisingly straightforward although after replacing it it was apparent that I could have just replaced the cartridge for a lot less cost and hassle.
