  1. If anyone is thinking of getting thier cam belt changed in the near future ask them to price to change the water pump at the same time even if it is working. I say this because I had my cambelt changed just after i bought the car last year at a main dealer (Autosales Bilston) and they didnt offer to do the water pump at the time (fair play they change the tensioner) you may say "if it aint broke dont fix it" but it is a £35 part which vw/audi know only lasts for about 35k miles anyway. I reckon it should only cost about an extra £70 to the total cost of the cambelt change as it is driven by the cam belt and is only held in by 3 bolts, as it stands mine went last week and you are looking at £250(if your lucky) to replace it as the cam belt has to come off again.
  2. Nice motor. I will look out for you as I live in Old Hill and have a 52 plate black magic Mk1 VRS
  3. Good heads up i was gonna buy mine after i got back from holiday. Are you all running standard suspension or is only likley to catch if the car is lowered?
  4. I have not checked to see if this has been covered before but since i have had my VRS (nearly 12 months) i have needed to clean the centre sections of my VRS seats and the drivers footwell 3 TIMES. Now i dont have any kids or do any extreme sports like naked treacle wrestling (mind you if that Christine Blakeley off the 1 show is up for it i am) and i have an office job so where is this muck coming from? So i reckon this might be a common problem with VRS owners and dose anyone have any products or methods they recommend
  5. Just been and got my exhaust sorted by LTC tyres in Brierley Hill,West Mids, and they are using wakeupyourcar remaps. They have quoted a 35-40 bhp increase usually £299 but as they are new customers they are doing a special price of £250+VAT. They download your standard map send it off to wuyc who store it adjust it then send it back for download . Anybody know who supplies their softwear are they any good?
  6. Continued. I then got everything welded in place and refitted it. I will put some pictures on soon. But the list of problems are as follows: The over-axle pipe being 3" is now knocking on the rear beam as well as rattling on the heatshield (which i have already given a seeing to with a hammer) and to top it all it is not as loud as i expected. It has a nice deep throb (oh er) at idle but is missing the growl at high revs hoping it will change when it carbons up. I may well get the back box changed by some professionals when i have some cash (they can sort the knocking as well). All in dont bother might aswell pay the £250 odd quid and get a Blue flame or a Powerflow.
  7. WELL! Where do i start. I got the extention pipes (2 pieces about 6" long 2" o/d with a flared end on the other to sleeve the existing pipe). The exhaust was cut in a section of pipe which is straight so the extensions could be welded in. All good so far! Had to cut the old exhaust off (with a 9" grinder and a cutting wheel) i could not believe how thick the standard exhaust tube was (nearly 5mm wall!) No going back now. Fitted the centre section with the resonator pipe in all good. Fitted the next section with the over axle pipe all good. Fitted the Back box OH DEAR....... The pipes finnished about 4" left and 3" lower than they should be. I had to leave it on driving around with a daft exhaust on for a week because i had cut up my standard. I bit the bullet and decided to cut the pipes off myself flare them get a mate to hold them in the right place tack weld them remove and re-weld off the car. Oh and i forgot to mention that the jack slipped whilst i was getting it up in the air and put a large crease in my sill which i now have to fill and paint! .....Continued
  8. Ooh ooh. Let me know too. I found the same thing when i looked under mine the other day how do they get them in in one piece? One thing i do want to know is how easy that subframe in the middle of the car is to remove
  9. No.... But it will have soon £20 seems to be the going rate on ebay. unless anyone knows better?
  10. What splitter is that on your front bumper. I am liking that alot
  11. Longlife will probably make you one. If it is just a de-cat then all they are doing is putting in a straight piece of pipe. If you wanted a bigger bore downpipe and de-cat thats a different thing altogether. You would need to know what flange (he he) your turbo has on it.
  12. Can somone confirm that the Skoda badge on the back does not have pegs in it. I saw a post on here that said the Octavia bagde is stuck on but the Skoda badge has pegs aswell which locate in the tailgate?
  13. I quite regularly get people hit the anchors especially if i have a white shirt on. Every time i tell someone what i am driving now they always say "thats the ones the police use isnt it? The Octavia Mk1 especially does seem to be associated with policecars though.
  14. For those of you who were interested the Exhaust i brought from 2fast2cool2 on Ebay is not a direct fit. The section from the cat to the over axle and up to the Back box hanger all match up but the tail pipes appear to be too short by about 50mm compared with the standard. and looks to finish level with the back bumper cut-out if not a little further back. The guy reckons it is a Bora Exhaust and that they are designed to sit there and has had no complaints from any where else. Maybe the Bora Bumber is not as deep as the Octy? But not to be outdone i am getting 2 sections welded in by the guy who does our fabrication work (hopefully for free) and i will be fitting it soon. It still works out cheap for a stainless exhaust.
  15. Isn't the 180BHP claimed power measured at the flywheel? i think a loss of 13HP through the drivetrain on a rolling road is about right isnt it?
