in order to light, i think the boot needs to be closed, more to that, I had same issue and it seemed that circuit board the one with the led lights attached to it, when you plug the socket in it moves, forward, so those two pins won't actually be inside the socket. I used a screw driver to keep it slightly still while pushing in the plug. Not sure if it makes sense my explanation, but that solved my problem.
