Thank you for the question. My car failed its Road Worthy Certificate due to inoperative flasher/high beam switch. I have 2 weeks maximum to rectify this fault before that Road Worthy Certificate expires. I was shocked/unimpressed given my car's relatively young built year of 2014. I rarely used flasher/high beam switch. The mechanic who failed my car informed me the new part is available in Singapore. He informed me that part will take 2-8 weeks to arrive in Australia. That mechanic specializes in Audi, VW and Skoda cars. Later, I contacted the Skoda dealer who confirmed that part is in Singapore just like what my mechanic told me. Therefore, based on the above information I concluded that part is not in Australia. Hence, I doubt that part will arrive in time before my car's Road Worthy Certificate expired.

The original solution I came up with in the earlier post did not quite work out well as I hoped. I found the resistance between pins 56 and 56a (that's the high beam) quite high at around 20 ohms. At the same time the resistance between pins 30 and 56a is 0.2 ohms (that's the flasher). So, I decided to dismantle the leaf springs. Photo 1: I used small forstner drill bit to remove the soft rivet to dismantle the leaf springs Photo 2: The spring leaf (30-56a) shows its charred tip. I have no way of knowing this as it is only visible facing down. I filed all contact points flat and shiny including the contacts on the body. I then polished all spring leaves as much as I can using fine sandpaper. I also restored the leaf strength by simply re-bending the elbows of these leaves. Photo 3: I fabricated 3mm nut and bolts. Only 3 are required. The fourth nut/bolt cannot be used in one of the holes as it will interfere with the indicator arm. You will notice an unfilled hole in this photo. I filed the nut heads thinner to same height as the elbow. Not too thin as you need a screwdriver to tighten these. You need to file these heads otherwise the backplate won't fit properly over. This took me a lot of time as the bolts/nuts are very fiddly to make. Photo 4: Shows the nuts. I had to shape 2 nuts so that they won't interfere each other. I used blue lock thread. I had to repair this as the replacement part is not available in Australia. The good news is that my latest solution worked as a charm!

The high beam failed in my Australian Fabia 2. The root cause of this issue lies within the combination switch. Please find the attached snapshots on how I go about resolving this issue. Keep in mind I do not how different is the Australian version compared to the European version. NOTE: DIY task is at your own risk.
