Servicing suggestions
Hello I'm about to send the '17 Scout DSG to local dealer for service. its done 22k and so teh service is very early but I want to get it done before I start travelling this year and I belive in changing the oil etc more often than extended periods listed for modern cars. Any suggestions what I should ask for beyond the usual filters and fluids? On my list: 4x4, Haldex oils and filters Check cruise control for correct operation. Occasionally sticks in lower speed when I try to nudge it up using switch end rocker switch Re-set Sat Nav. According to dealer serv manager the sat nav needs a software upgrade and checking its handling the satellite signals accuratley. This should be a free service which I negotiated on buying the car, so give it your all please Thanks

My NC500
Same. I've now got an Octavia Scout so I can explore mountain tracks, as far as I dare. Spent 6 weeks in N Spain Sept last year. I recommend looking at roof tents as a way of stopping off the road and not having the faff of sticking tent pegs in the ground. Also very speed set up and go in the morning. I used to do lots and lots of winter mountaineering in Scotland so have visited most of the northern parts on NC5oo, but intend to get back up there this early spring.

All season tyres for Octavia
Jumping into this thread Looking to change my tyres on my 2017 Octavia Scout. Current 225 / 50 R 17. Looking for something that grip on rough mountain type paths & mud. Not bothered about keeping the speeds down on the motorway so speed ratings & noise are secondary. I have bought Continental tyres of all sizes etc for decades, but anyone here make different recommendation? Thanks

Thanks fabavrav for the info on the intake height. That was something I was going to check myself The info about drainage is interesting also.

Reversing in 4x4 mode, issues
Again, thanks for the relevant info. It's going to the official dealer I bought it from as it has their own warranty and guarantee which I will be holding them to. Also, I want to keep the records correct and sequential and the 'ownership' of the problem with the same people.

North Spain
Hello I've been driving through France and across the North of Spain for 45 years and seen a lot of changes most of all it has become much easier for the non-Spanish speaker and in experienced right hand side driver. My first suggestion is get a ferry to Bilbao or Santander and drive the A8 (Autovia) to Galicia (top left corner Spain). The A8 is a magnificent road sweeping over mountains and valleys, UK has nothing like it. Along the way there are beaches on the North and mountains and routes to central Spain to the South. If you don't want to do motorway all the way there is the old road and the old old road still in existence, usually to its North. There is a lot of Spanish tourism in the area and it has now for the past 10yrs been discovered by North Europeans so English is spoken in most places. If you want to head south, I recommend looking for the road (N640*) south west out of Barres to Lugo, on to Ourense and then on to north Portugal. That will be a 3 day drive if you are not trying to break records. That journey will take you through green sweeps of land, across lakes and rias. I recommend doing it in late spring when the heat isnt too bad, the roads are quiet and you will not have half of Madrid competing with you for camping space or hotel rooms. * - road numbers in Spain. They change without warning. You can be driving along a national road such as the N640 which might change to the LL-200 and back to N640. It takes too long to explain why.

Reversing in 4x4 mode, issues
Good points roottoot. I bought it with 14k, it now has another 5k. I did discuss this with the dealer service manager yesterday about adding it to the list on next service which I intend to bring much closer than the dash screen suggests. And your point on, they don't know about them, is also true. See my post in the Hello forum. But he and I have already outlined what will be added to normal oil change etc. Will report back when done

Wading depth
I agree about the floating thing, it's not all about water in the cylinder or wet electrics. Half a century ago when I was using rough old Land Rovers to get to Odessa via various countries we took all the floor rubber bungs out to let the water in and out quickly.

Thanks. I'll get them to check versions as well as recalibrate.

Reversing in 4x4 mode, issues
The dealer service manager has just given me a possible explanation, but he also didn't understand this. The Haldex reacts to front wheel slip angles, so if the front wheels are not rotating no Haldex to operate. His dealer training on the 4x4 didn't go to this depth but he considered the 4x4 is designed for forward movement only.

Thanks again. I can't have been using the correct search terms. So as the Scout is 3cm higher than a std Octavia I guess I have a small bit extra. I would have hoped that we could have done a couple of more cms.

2017 Scout Sat Nav
Thanks for the response. I've just returned from the dealership where I booked in an early service. Luckily for me the head service person was there and enjoyed talking about my Scout experiences and the few woes. He jumped on the dealer info system and found a known remedy, which is to recalibrate the system. I'll let you know when it's been fixed

Reversing in 4x4 mode, issues
Hello My Scout in Rough surface traction mode does something I am not certain is correct. Firstly, let me say going forward the Haldex 4x4 & DSG works well and exactly as I would predict, but in reverse what appear to be simple ruts stop it taking up the drive. As an example, I was going down a very steep narrow track which kept getting narrower so when I got to a place I could 3point turn I did. At this location there was a drainage channel across the road at a 30-degree angle. The channel was about 5cm deep with sloping sides. Something I'd not thought would be a problem. The front wheels came to rest in this channel during one of my many back & forths. Engaged R and pressed accelerator, lots of revs but no movement. I put it into normal drive mode & it reversed as normal. This sort of behaviour has happened 2 other times. Once on a big tree root, another on a reverse up a steep bank. Should I be asking the dealer to check anything? Anyone had similar experiences? TIA

Wading depth
I've searched the pdf manual for the wading depth of my 2017 Scout but can't find any info. Can anyone point me to the info or know what it is from a good source? I had to turn back from a few stream crossings as I was not certain how deep I could go.

2017 Scout Sat Nav
Hello After my inro post, this is my 1st thread start, so bear with me if I have entered the wrong section of the forum or anything heinous. 2nd hand Scout diesel, with original 2017 sat nave maps. I've just updated the maps to the latest version downloadable from the Skoda official area and as far as I can see they work. One aspect I was hoping the download would help with is speed of response from the nav messages and map scrolling. I haven't yet tested but don't hold much hope, but any comments. I have just come back from 3.5k miles of driving in Europe where the system worked but was so slow at issuing its messages & map update it would say 'turn next left' for example so slowly, until we got used to sort of ignoring it, we would turn down the road before the one we should have. Is this slow response a known issue? Any fix? Thanks for reading

Octavia Scout
Hello all I bought a 2017 Skoda Scout diesel 2 months ago, and what a great car it is. Just recently retired I wanted to go back to the mountains of Europe where I used to climb etc when I was young and immortal. Age has made me realise that 1) I'm not immortal, 2) I can't move like I used to and 3) there is a lot of ground to cover. We looked around at expedition trucks and these huge autocaravanas and decided they were too big, expensive and specialised so looked at 4x4 estates and decided the Scout was good. Trip to local dealer who had had their first Scout taken in part chop on their forecourt as yet unprepared. Checked colour was OK with the wife and a deal was struck. I don't know anything about specs but as far as I can see this is the standard UK diesel Scout with a big glass sunroof & Westphalia tow ball. Just got back from 6 weeks mostly in the north Spanish mountains going up some very steep and narrow tracks where its best properties were 1) the extra 3cm ride height 2) underbody protection 3) hill descent control 4) Haldex And in the continuous hot weather - the sunroof. 3.5k miles later and this quick purchase has proved to be excellent. Likely add a hard shell roof tent and bike carrier on the tow ball. I have a bunch of questions about the car which I'll post as separate threads. Thanks for reading so far.
