  1. Thanks. I wend back and found the C-Neo. It is very interesting with the info. so far. The cursory reviews mention, as usual, hard plastics etc which I prefer rather than paying for fripperies such as 4 way memory seats and leather. The Octavia has Alcantara seats and they are excellent in 40 degree heat or -20 chill
  2. Thanks. Its the Sandman and worth looking at. Depends on its size. Similar to the Peugeot Rifter 4x4 which never made it into production

  4. Yes, that is the alternative, run it until I can't. The only replacement I can find is the Subaru Outback which has only modern infotainment & steeper descent & approach angles. The lack of a good approach angle has caught me out two times resulting a scrunched front lower lip.
  5. My 17 plate 186ps diesel Octavia Scout has done everything I bought it for. Drives across France, Spain etc at good speeds. Then goes up & down mountain tracks pretty well. Space for 2 with camping and mountaineering gear. Its got only 55,000 miles on it but I am planning to change over later this year. What do I buy, Skoda or anything? The size of the Scout is just right, not as wide or as tall as most of these SUV look-a-likes which I feel will not get up some tracks as they are too bulky. Petrol for preference as I can buy it almost anywhere I go, diesel will get in sort supply over next 5 years and charging doesn't exist in a 5 house village in the Pyrenees Ideas?
  6. The car is fine now, but an observation The rate at which the water gauge got to 90 is much slower now I have a new water pump/shut off valve. Maybe if you see the needle getting up to temp much faster than was normal this is a leading indicator that something is wrong

I've added my details to that thread, Gaz A few observations Since Christmas day the temp has got to 120 degrees there times but by driving at a constant 50mph the temp falls back to 90 in jerks. Only once after it has fallen back has it risen again. In between those 3 events the car has stayed at 90 for water and 105 for oil for 100s of miles The Skoda mechanic who changed it implied the bypass sleeve went from solid stuck to like mine sticking occasionally Giving the car a good run tomorrow, will be back if it doesn't work

My details 17 plate Octavia Scout. 184PS diesel started at 53450 Out of warranty didn't pursue any compensation All Electric in Woodthorpe Rd in Birmingham changed water pump and belts for £900 Replaced like for like First time I got warning lights was Christmas day, then about 3 weeks later and 2 days ago. In between the needle solidly at 90 and oil at 100 to 105 I asked mechanic if the bypass sleeve was stuck but at time of taking out, no it wasn't. But he didn't make thing this was odd, just normal behaviour. This is an old geezer who has been doing Skoda for 35yrs I hope that helps. Please ask questions if I've missed anything useful

  10. Thanks for all the replies My initial thoughts are sensor I have been driving it on short distances today and the temp is solid at 90 and oil at 105 I plan to do more miles to see if it comes back Will read about the pump Thanks again

Hello I have a Octavia Scout 2litre diesel 17 plate For 52 thousand its been total reliable, but on Christmas day it said it was overheating but opening the bonnet, no signs Full details Set off in lightly loaded car to drive to Oxford from Brum 10miles to M42, turn towards M42 and shortly dash lights up and tells me its overheating. Temp gauge is a 120 but oil at 105 Slow down to 50 to crawl to safe place. Temp gauge quickly gets back to 90 as it has always been Speed up a bit but gauge goes to 120 again. Pull over in HGV type layby. Open bonnet, no water splashed nor the sort of smell you get with a hot engine. Wait 10 minutes, touch plastic reservoir. Its hot but not untouchably hot. Highway officer pulls up and suggests I drive to next junction. I set off but the needle stays at 90 on the water and 105 on oil Decide to carry on keeping eye on temps. I switch heater on full Make it to north Oxford absolutely fine. I had it trailered back as I didn't want to be waiting beside freezing motorway at 23:00 on Christmas day Past few days I've been driving it around and temps of oil and water exactly where they should be and rick solid Is this a known issue? Sounds like a sender switch to me. Ideas please Thanks for any help
  12. The final piece in this puzzle is the tailgate switch doesn't work as it should. The fix is a new switch but I rather like the fact the car can be unlocked and the tailgate remains locked until I consciously unlock it. So for now its staying as it is. Unless someone tells me that its possible to configure unlock procedure so tailgate stays locked with a working button Thanks all
  13. Thanks for the replies Delay in responding because life kinda got in the way and then PlusNet appeared to think I didn't deserve to be connected to the Internet! That piece from the manual is exactly what I wanted. Worried about being somewhere remote with the Scout, battery in key dying, and not being able to get into the boot area.
  14. A happy & prosperous new year to you all. Is it possible to open the tailgate on my Estate without using the specific button on the key fob? I've read the manual but cant find any reference to a switch or pull inside the car. What happens if the fob goes wrong? Thanks in advance,
  15. Thanks. I did search but I didn't see anything I will try your suggestions. Probably rely on 'phone. Best would be to upgrade the whole thing to Apple Car Play and then we can use the latest software from Apple. But that won't happen.
