aftermarket wheels thread
nokianneule replied to rob_e's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Updated the stock wheels. The new ones are Sparco Assetto Gara 18x8. 9,2kg each so pretty light compared to original 18" Gemini. -
Post your Mk3 Octavia photos!
nokianneule replied to Torchythomas's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
My vRS 4x4 and wife's 120dA xdrive. Wasn't expecting too much after the BMW but Octavia is pretty damn good. -
You know... drive faster. Speed comes naturally when it's chilly outside:

A picture taken this morning. Not too cold?

This would be nice! As you can read ( ) there's also 4wd and estate versions coming. Or not.

It's sooo boring to drive a FWD car during winter months. :(

vRS 2.0T dump valve
nokianneule replied to octaviarsman's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Just wondering how loud sound that valve gives with normal (no remapped) engine (with not so high boost pressures)? Have to try myself. -

7000 miles in the vRS - brief summary

>Shifty Interestred in the BOV part of the review... You propably have this: http://www.machevo.com/forgebovkit.html ? Do You get any "side effects" after dumping out measured intake air? How does the TFSI motor differ from 1.8T engine in that (measuring the amount/mass of intake air)? Would like to install that valve myself too, but if it's necessary to use racekat it's not the first thing to do in my list. Still waiting my vRS Combi, ETA first week of June. Can't wait... -

What make and model are the wheels you are talking about? Thanks. -

I've seen also Dunlops fitted to 17" rims. 18" rims were with continental sportcontact 2.

What's the size of the wheels/ tyres?

Who's ordered a Mk2 vRS ??
nokianneule replied to skodaw's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Hmmph... I ordered an estate with 18" wheels and maxi-dot display, everything else comes pretty much as standard (Ksenons, climatronic, rear electric windows etc etc) and the total price is... tadaa... about 38 000 euros. That's about 25 550 GBP! That still is a bargain compared to other cars in octy's class. Focus ST is over 40 000 euros (almost 28 000 GBP!) with Ksenons and stuff, astra OPC (VXR) is about 40k euros too. -
I was curious to see how the winter motoring should be done because at the moment it's about -5 degrees celsius and 15cm's of snow... Here in Finland it's obligatory to use winter tyres during the winter months. I prefer studded tyres but ones without studs are ok also unless the road is icy and wet. These tyres are a real pain in the **** when driving on tarmac, these are really soft and the tread pattern is almost 10mm high so it's flexible as hell. It's like driving summer tyres (means propably just regular tyres to you folks) with just under 1.5 bar pressure. Check this site for an idea what the hell I'm talking about (note also the max speed ratings): http://www.nokiantyres.com/wintertyres_en The point is, you cant possibly imagine how much grip these kind of tyres has on snowy and icy road surfaces. The braking distance from about 60 miles/hour must be like five times shorter compared to summer tyres (on snow) and you can actually sense the deceleration. That's not the case with a combination summer tyres + snow as you propably have noticed... The driving in snow is actually really good fun with some decent tyres. The Octy is good to drive at the winter but I don't like the idea of cutting the fuel when you press the brake pedal. It would be usefull to correct the understeer with pressing simultaneously the brake and gas pedals. :thumbdwn: By the way, remember to take off the ESP when starting to do a hand-brake turn.

There's some pics of our fleet: http://www.pinkbike.com/modules/photo/?op=list&function=myphotos&photouserid=17655

Any luck? If so, could you print some vital specs like "Better brakes than @ V GTI, more power, 4x4". Oh well, must stop dreaming. It's 2.0T thats for sure and boring front wheel driven machine. Don't know if I want another (front)wheel spinner (after the vRS 1), the winter time last ~6 months here.

Just heard a rumour that Octy RS II is already included to the latest revision of ETKA?

Too late! I allready dented mine a month ago... :( Couple of pics there: http://www.ultimatevw.com/autot/?cmd=auto&id=1340 I've got decent (studded) winter tyres but too much speed on an icy freeway and this is what happens. Not my fault though, "opponent's" insurance company paid the bill (~12k eur). Octavia RS Combi costs here in Finland about 32k euros. BTW, we've got nice winter temps at the moment: it was about -20

Octavia RRS by Riechert-Racing? http://www.autobild.de/test/neuwagen/artikel.php?artikel_id=5834&artikel_seite=0&A_SESS=e92e5a84b6a7895d94c5afdde9db71bc Edit: Who's got one of those...dunno.
-
33k euros... so it's cheaper than the old model. Here in Finland that is. The new Golf V GTI is about 39500eur with DSG, Subaru Impreza WRX 42000eur, WRX STI 52000eur... cars are so damn expensive here.
-
Studs might not be an option for you though... If I was buying new tyres for winter, I'd have four options (for non-studded) at the moment: - Continental ContiVikingContact 3 - Gislaved SoftFrost 2 - Nokian Hakkapeliitta RSi - Michelin X-ice All of these are designed to be used on snowy and icy conditions ("scandinavian winter") but they still cant't beat the studs on what comes to pure grip on ice.
