  1. The bad news - I have finally sold my beloved Octavia Mk1 vRS !! I bought my 2005 Corrida red Mk1 vRS when it was 2 years old and I have owned it for over 8 1/2 years. It has been the most reliable car I have ever owned (No joke!). The only non wear and tear parts I have had to replace are 2 door latches, coolant temp sensor and engine speed sensor. The car had covered just 85k when it was handed over as part/X for a... 2012 Skoda Octavia Mk2 2.0 TFSI vRS in race blue (the good news) I thought about the Mk3, but I could not justify the £20k+ price tag they are asking for second hand ones. My Mk2 is a 62 plate with just 11k on the clock, FSSH, 1 owner and absolutely immaculate - bought from main dealer for £12k. The difference in the Mk1 and Mk2 is incredible. I only had it for 24 hours, but so far, very very pleased. Hopefully another 8+ years of happy motoring. (If anyone is wandering, I only got a poor £1600 p/x for the Mk1) So farewell Mk1, hello Mk2
  2. I have had a little fading on the spoiler, but thats it. Probably due to it been painted on plastic. The car is kept on the drive and is in full sun most of the day (when the sun actual shines that is:D) I little T-Cut and plenty of meguiars polish keeps the car looking the biz. I am thinking of getting the black plastic trim colour coded. Anyone with a red vRS done this? Any pics handy?
  3. I had a similiar issue on my previous car, it was really annoying and took ages to find out what was causing it. It turned out to be the heat shield over the mid section of the exhaust. Two of the metal clips had come off which caused the heat shield to tap against the exhaust. Still, not sure if Octavias have heat shields around their mid box, or even if this is the cause of your problem. Just trying to think of some possiblities.
  4. Got EBC standard disc all round on my vRS fitted with GreenStuff pads. EBC parts get a mixture of good and bad reviews, but I have had no problems with them and they are a little cheaper than SKODA standard replacement. The rears were £63.22 delivered. (Goto EBCBrakesDirect.com and enter code SCOOBY58 to get 15% off)
  5. OK, fault code was 16706 - Engine Speed Sensor, but showing as intermittent fault. Also detected Coolant Temperature Sensor error. Fault codes has been cleared. Tested car for two hours without any errors! I will keep my eye on it. Still, the electrian didn't charge me for his time
  6. Cheers m8, I will get the fault code tonight and let you know what it reads. It does sound like the exact the same symptons to me. If I leave the car for 5/10 mins it starts. Bad time to happen, just paid for holiday so I'm broke :(
  7. I own a LCR and an Octavia vRS. And yes, I am now on my 3rd splitter on the LCR!! My vRS is standard and the LCR (also standard) is much lower. Better to damage and replace the cheap splitter rather than the expensive front bumper.
  8. The dreaded EPC light came on my vRS today!! Over the last couple of days, the car has not started as cleanly as normal when the engine was hot. It turns over fine and does start, but it sometimes takes a while for it to catch. Thought nothing of it (blamed the wife as you do) but today it did it again, but this time the EPC light came on and stayed on all the way home (all of 5 miles). I have searched the forum for causes and found that there are unfortunately quite a few :( I have checked the brake lights and they all work. Checked the coolant temp sensor, gave it a clean and the light went out. Still, better get it checked in case it is something more serious. Local dealers (Skoda, VW and Audi) all use a local VAG electronics expert. They will charge £75+vat / hour for the pleasure. Got hold of the electrician direct and he lives around the corner so will pop round to my house tomorrow to run full diag. The best thing is, he only charges £25/hour direct. Thats stealers for you!!! 200% mark up for doing no work themselves  I will post the results when I get them.
  9. I have just replace my front and rear discs and pads on my 54 plate vRS. I didn't go for original parts in the end due to silly dealer prices. I bought standard EBC discs with green stuff pads. I have used these discs and pads on many of my previous cars and all have worked extremely well. Total cost from ebcbrakesdirect.com was £161.49 (that included VAT and delivery!) To get this price use the promo code "SCOOBY58" to get 15% discount and free shipping!! The green stuff pads blend in nicely with the vRS green calipers;)
  10. Hi, this is my first post, although I have been a member for a while and owned my red Mk1 vRS for just over a year. Its a Feb 2005 (54) plate and just clocked 40k. Just today I have noticed this very noticeable clicking sound from the right hand side of the dashboard. It does sound like a dull version of the indicator clicking. My car has cruise control, anyone have an idea how much this is to replace compared with a standard stalk? Is the stalk really the fault, and if I ignore the sound, will it get worse or cause any other problems? cheers, tonyjo
