Problem with DPF regenration after deleting EGR
Thank you, I will get him to bring the ECU back to the original state and get the other garage to fit a new EGR. They advised me to just get a cheap EGR off ebay. Is this a good idea? They told me to find one that will work with my engine code. Will one like this be enough? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174942263350?fits=Car+Make%3ASkoda|Cars+Type%3A1.6+TDI|Plat_Gen%3AMK+II|Cars+Year%3A2009|Model%3AOctavia|Variant%3ADiesel+Estate|Engine%3A1598cc+77KW+105HP+CAYC|BodyStyle%3AFWD+II+1Z5|Variant%3ADiesel+Estate|Engine%3A1598cc+77KW+105HP+CAYC|BodyStyle%3AFWD+II+1Z5&hash=item28bb5f1836:g:OfYAAOSwkUJfvOsw&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA8Pnze2FuBGjp5SPmweGUgI68fs%2BExaMwCWw70YCJ1uEu80A%2FsR%2FCfv9sOZ8OAnxQ%2BgG6aWy6vxg5sTOiweBfAn4zKARip4vcEdmpL%2Bc7H1avliADcU7OYRxkWsGE7C7n8ipTH%2FH4QUtVnbNpAKhIaDkrDAAk1ZZE1UVr%2F%2BNFIB5df0XQDCzmMv1V%2Bjk3aRJV8Pg%2FbFjhQKrI4ngHoIW6r7wovoEKhgp7XWGbU3v%2ByD6a42m9lcRK7grnOVVZKlomNXyWvQ6WXyvfr8Gt5Mx1kmzpzUl06s2LcfJ3ywQhZsEaPOx2EtVBCS4YTKzgC25PXw%3D%3D|tkp%3ABFBM5Nu6w6hh It says there that it fits my car among others, but would like to be sure. Thanks again for your help.

Problem with DPF regenration after deleting EGR
Hi Sorry for long post but it's a weird problem. I am devastated. I have a 2011 Octavia mk2 1.6TDI estate ( i think engine code is CAYC but not sure if this is the full engine code? - I found it on the sticker inside the boot) with 96k miles on the clock. Nearly 2 months ago while I was driving, an EGR fault came up ( P0407 EGR "B" Circuit low ) and car went into limp mode. In the garage they recommended that best solution is to block off the EGR and remove it from the computer. I agreed and after I got the car back the problem was not there any more and the car was faster than ever before. Unfortunately this is when another problem started. Next day when I was driving, car started regenerating the DPF(arrow went up to 1000 rpm when idle). And it went on for about 40 minutes(I kept driving and reving the car hard to let it finish). This was worrying as before it would only go for about 15 minutes. Also I never had any problems with my DPF because I do a lot of motorway driving. I have also started noticing that the coolant temperature level is a bit low. It would sit at about 75 - 80 deg C. Before it was always sitting at 90 deg. Now it would only go to 90 deg after about 15 minutes of driving at about 3000 rpm. And after stopping and leaving the car idle it would drop rapidly to about 75 deg again. Days went by and the car would start the regeneration process more and more often and it would last long. After about 2 weeks DPF light came on(suggesting that filter is blocked or there is a problem with regenerating it?). I kept driving for about 30 minutes and reving a lot until the light went off. Later I decided to connect Delphi diagnostic device and perform a static regeneration. About 15 minutes into the regeneration process Delphi showed these temperature readings: Temperature pre turbo: 247° C (no idea if this is good or bad) Pre-particulate filter temperature: 179° C (also not sure but seems low) Particle filter downstream temperature: 169° C (same here, apparently this is way too low?) Particle filter, calculated content of soot: 24.38 grammes Particle filter, measured content of soot: -1.89 grammes The regeneration went on for about 50 minutes until I have aborted it. Previously I had a mazda and regeneration would only last about 20 minutes so it all was weird to me. Also the temperature readings seemed way too low. I read somewhere that DPF needs about 600° C to regenerate. I'm not sure if the measured content of soot is weirdly low as well? After aborting the regeneration I have started the engine again and it started regenerating while driving right away. It went on for a while, I kept driving it at about 3000 - 3500 rpm. After about 20 minutes DPF light came on again. So kept driving it for another 20 minutes and light went off. Seems like the car is trying to regenerate but can't because of the temperature being way too low? I went back to the garage and the guy diagnosed that it needs a new thermostat. After fitting the thermostat the car holds the coolant temperature better. It goes to 90 degrees quicker and stays there. Unless I stop the car, leave it running idle and put the heating inside full blast - then it falls slightly. Unfortunately the DPF problem is still here. I took it to a different garage and they couldn't find what is wrong. They recommended me to go and tell the previous guy to reverse the computer to the original state and they will fit me a new EGR valve. After collecting the car from this other garage it was fine for about 2 days but after that same thing happened. Car started regenerating for like 1 hour, after 20 minutes dpf light came up, then drove it for another 20 minutes and it went off. I have booked it with him for 10th of January but I am not sure if this will fix the issue. He says that he deleted EGRs in many 1.6 TDIs and never had any problems. It happened when he deleted and blocked the EGR but maybe it's just a coincidence? Maybe he unscrewed some sensors to get better access to block the EGR and later forgot to put them back in? He says that he measured the dpf pressure and it's only 8 millibar and apparently that's good( and that's after a month of me driving like this - I do about 1.5k miles a month). Maybe the reading is so low because the sensor is loose? The car drives well, only regenerations last forever, use a lot of fuel. DPF light comes on and off. I'm afraid to drive the car in case the DPF will get blocked. I have got myself a VCDS vag scan tool. I haven't played with it yet. Are there any tests I can perform with it? Testing sensors? Which ones should I test? I'm afraid that I will spend money on new EGR but the problem could lie somewhere else. I am devastated. Anyone had similar problems? Any ideas? I will be very grateful for any help. Regards Jack
