  1. Issue resolved! (fingers crossed) Took it back to dealer we bought car from 2 years ago. New SKF belt, tensioner and pump £200 all in. Old water pump sleeve had stuck open. I now realise there is a whole topic on this so sorry to duplicate. Thanks for all the help.
  2. ....also our local garage that replaced the thermostat did query the cam belt & pump but as the service history recorded replacement at 64k they were certain it was the thermostat. In hindsight I should have gone back to the dealer in the first place I suppose. Anyway hopefully it'll get sorted next week. I'll update you then.n
  3. Well my other vehicle is a 20 year old landrover defender! Which I can remedy & work on a lot easier than these new fangled engines! So I'm used to landrover forums & being thoughtful before posting!..... The first issue was total loss of coolant. Area beneath rads wet. Since new rads (7 weeks ago) coolant hasn't dropped. Just the temp gauge of terror issues. So I'm my feeble reckoning the rads were needed?
  4. Thanks Gaz & Ords. Spoke to dealer today & taking it up next week - he knew about the issue with water pump & said he may have one. Am I right in thinking cam belt should always be replaced when replacing pump?
  5. This is my first post and I really like our Skoda but its poorly! Vehicle: Octavia Estate SE 1.6tdi manual 2016 82500 miles Issue: Fan on after short drives/coolant level always on minimum Total loss of coolant/ temp gauge in red New radiators - £550 Coolant holding but temp gauge slow to come up/drifts over 90/and even drops back/erratic & intermittent Diagnostics show no faults - does not fault when with the local garage - very annoying! New Thermostat- £300 Heater seems more responsive and temp gauge increases to 90 quicker ( may just be warmer weather) Temp gauge still erratic though - goes over 90 usually going up hill - dropping down a gear seems to bring gauge back rather than going up a gear Now booked in for cam belt & water pump - £600 My hair and bank balance falling out!!! The dealer we bought the car from 2 years ago said he replaced the cam belt & water pump at time of purchase on 64300 miles. The car actually runs fine although lost power recently when going up hill and the temp gauge went into the red - limp mode? Ive noticed a click click noise when you turn the ignition on coming from the engine bay. apart from that lovely car! Thank you in advance for any advice. Ben
