  1. That's exceedingly helpful actually. I knew about the mac address but not the fakra connector. Don't think my fabia has a gps or bluetooth aerial. It just has the quad lock connector and a connector for that dual plug. Am guessing I'll need to install those components too- people don't usually provide them with the head unit do they? This is going to be a laugh! Looking forward to fitting it. 😀
  2. Thanks urbanpanzer! Am off to try and find a decent rns315 and mic for a decent price! 🙂
  3. Thanks softscoop. Having perused the various radio/satnav threads, there seems to be multiple opinions on the aftermarket low end vs older original items? I've seen a number of threads where the quality of sound/display/signal etc was not highly rated in models like xtrons etc, and then one or two threads that rate them ok? For a Newby like me, it becomes more than a little baffling to tell what aftermarket unit would be best, what other bits I would need to buy, what software I would need to code it etc etc. With that in mind I thought a relatively 'plug and play' original purpose built option (albeit older) which gives me reasonable quality and reliable dab +, Bluetooth and satnav (and if I'm lucky maybe reverse camera in addition to my beep sensors and perhaps carplay) would be ideal bang for buck, with a price cap for an old rattletrap like mine of about 250 - 300. Have you upgraded to any low-midrange aftermarket options yourself?
  4. Looking to upgrade my old swing radio in my mk 2 (2010) fabia. Can anyone recommend where / from who I can get a Skoda RNS510 with code (plus, presumably, the GPS module and whatever other needed essentials), please? Am scouring the web / facebook but apart from a few people asking for silly money, have not had much luck... I'd go about 250 or so.
  5. Thanks Keith. The damaged aux in port has a 2.5cm x 1cm chip attached to it. Out of the back of that are 4 pins which insert into the internal loom plug. I bought a similar generic cigarette lighter socket in the hope I could simply change over 'plug 'n play' but it ended up having a wider internal diameter than I need and a different connecter set up lol... To date I'm running my aux with the bare chip protruding from below the handbrake, and I've sandpapered inside of the cigarette lighter paper thin to remove the bad contacts. It's a workaround, but even Tracey Emin wouldn't call it pretty..
  6. Hi brain trust! Re: my old and in need of much TLC SKODA Fabia Elegance (2010/2011) Anyone know: a) if an aux-in port/ plug for another model eg octavia of this generation is directly compatible, and: b) if any generic cigarette lighter socket can be used to replace my dodgy (intermittently working) original and last: c) of any reputable breaker/supplier can provide me these parts plus a handbrake boot? 🤔🙂 Many thanks in advance for any input! Kind regards Rohan
  7. Nice one. I have an aux cable on order to try that out: have never used the aux in,and since the plug in power adapter is very dodgy I may be onto a loser with access via the port between the seats. That would defo be the simplest option though 👍 I was wondering if there was an option that allowed using the standard radio controls on the swing radio, just allowed it to 'see' some dab channels?
  8. Hi all I have an old 2010 Fabby run around rattletrap which gets me from A to B. Reliable old thing, with 110000 on the clock. She has her original FM radio up and running, but with the milage I still do I'd like a few more radio station options. Given this old girl's age and general scruffiness I'm not looking to fit any pricey stuff to her, but I was wondering if anyone had accomplished adding some dab channels to one of these with a bare miminum outlay and difficulty.... something along the lines of a h8dden adapter round the back of the radio? Might be asking far too much.... but anyone have any advice? I've about £100 to spend on this. Any more and I'll gaffer tape a hand held cheap recgargeable dab radio to the steering wheel instead! 😉
