  1. Got a mk2 VRs which is displaying very high temperatures for outside. P2185 code. Temperature will reach 55+ degrees when driving on the motorway and fans on however drive not affected. A/C also wont work. I have already changed the coolant temperature sensor below the battery and wanted to change the ambient sensor too however I do not know where it is. Could anyone be of assistance? TIA.
  2. Will be EA111 if you have CTHE/ 1.4 twincharger. EA211 refers to 1.4 turbo only with no supercharger. Wasn’t applied to the VRS, would be in the Mk3.

  5. The CAVE was rebuilt by a VW expert with 16 years experience according to the ad and it doesn’t specify whether or not it comes with an ECU so I doubt it, but wouldn’t hurt to ask. As for the CTHE, it comes with a warranty however it would still be sort of going in blind. There aren’t many CTHE options for sale right now. And it will be fitted by my mechanic.
  6. The CAVE engine available is a fresh rebuild, it’s the CTHE that’s used, 50k iirc. Was told the bottom end was burnt ruling out a rebuild and that a replacement engine was needed
  7. Hi everyone, just after some advice. The VRS needs a new engine and I'm in between buying a rebuilt CAVE engine or a used CTHE to fit in. What would you go for in my position and why? Car originally had a CTHE engine in it and I’m aware that it is the revised version etc, it's just a matter of availability. Thanks in advance! 🤞
  8. RCD will give a more original feel but you’d need a CANBUS adapter to avoid battery drain. Depending what radio you have now then you might find that there’s a drop in sound quality, which I found after switching from both Swing and RNS radios.

  10. Can anyone offer me any advice please? Recently bought a Fabia VRS Mk 2, CTHE engine code and two days ago it was driving fine, I turned the engine off to go to the shop for a moment and upon my return, the car wouldn’t go into gear! Whether in D, S or R, the car wouldn’t move and on the maxidot, a spanner would appear where the gear should be. Called AA and it was taken to a gearbox specialist who have since told me that gearbox had failed and quoted me £3640 for a reconditioned gearbox, replacement dual mass flywheel, gearbox oil and labour. It’s a bit of a situation and I would love to explore my options but I have absolutely no clue as to where to start or what costs to even expect. Id really appreciate any advice. Thank you
