  1. Cheers for the opinions and information, guys. It puts me in the picture about likely effort involved . I use an iPhone for most of my non-driving activity and I remember, several years ago, trying to make Android and iOS systems get along and it was hard work and not worth it for what I wanted (a cheap smart phone) at the time. I can do stuff hands free with my iPhone on a holder and the extras that a super intelligent receiver seem hardly worth it, unless the next car I buy has something already fitted. I imagine that a USB DAB receiver would need to use the existing car radio but it doesn't seem likely that the Bolero would provide the necessary User Interface. (?) I'll watch this space then. 🙂
  2. My Octavia Mk2 has no DAB receiver. I'm just wondering how much aggro would be involved in changing the Bolero for something that would be a plug-in replacement. The trim around the Bolero is curved and radios tend to be rectangular. Can. you just lever off the bezel, for a start? Then, is there more involved than reconnecting the Power in, RF in from the antenna and a (universal?) connector for the speakers. I don't need any other stuff; SatNav works fine with Ways or Google Maps and the all round viz of the car is so good that parking aids or cameras are not worth the hundreds of quid that the fitting services want. The existing FM antenna bandwidth may not be suitable so it may need a window antenna.
  3. @varooom Thanks to you too. When you look inside a car, it's basically reverse Engineering, always because there are very few sources of "This the basic way this system works . . . . . ." and that makes it hard to get a hold on what's what. The occasional brief comment on a forum can be really helpful - like when I read that there's actually no relay on my rear wiper motor and that it's off when the lid is raised. A chap could do a lot of chasing to find out that all for himself, trying to fault find.
  4. Thanks @Breezy_Pete it begins to make some sense now. I imagine that service engineers need to go on a course to get this stuff right so I'm limping through it all.

I bought a workshop manual (Skoda_Octavia_II_Workshop_Manual_2004_to_2013) (pdf files) for my elderly Octavia. £14 for, apparently the full works, and I've already had my money's worth in entertainment. But I am having trouble linking between circuit diagram pages. I am trying to chase the rear wiper circuit back through the pages to the stalk but I don't know what to search for to see where a wire goes to. There are numbers in square boxes but a search for the number gives too many hits to deal with. On a page, it's pretty obvious what's what so I'm sure they is a way of working that will give me the info I need. Should I find a page of explanation? Cheers
  6. I just realised that my question is nonsense!!! That display shows the second speed. i.e. the km/hr when the mains display is mph and mph when the main display is km/hr. Ah well, you live and learn.
  7. I have a 2011 Octavia Estate and the speed (bottom right of MFD) also shows km/hr. The owner's manual says it can be changed, along with other things, with the knob 5 on the image of the instrument cluster. That knob does so many things that I am worried about changing something else. What exactly do you have to do?
