Hi I know it's a bit of an old thread but I thought I'd share my experience on the matter. I have a MK2 1.6 TDI Combi. Reverse and 1st have been sticking for some time now. Mostly 1st. After doing some digging I found a video that looked helpful so I tried thought I'd explore that avenue. Although I did cut some corners and not completely do as the guy in the video did but it worked out and fixed the issue. Also it's not not exactly the same model as mine. I removed both items in the 1st picture to expose the leaver in the second. The leaver was loose as in the video. All I did was tighten the nut high lighted and the problem was solved.
