  1. I swapped it out without taking off top cover. I just moved the water pipes out the way, primed the new tensioner with oil before installing, it was quite simple to do. I took off the king lead to coil distributor and cranked the car a few times and plugged it back in and started car, No rattle !!! on start up !!!
  2. I had the annoying start up rattle for a second or so which would immediately go once oil pressure built. The lack of rattle or guide noise during revving or under load led me to think chain must be ok 👍. I decided to swap out chain tensioner, other forum members have taken precautions before unbolting the tensioner, by removing timing case cover and wedging guide and tensioner in place so chain remains taut on the top camshaft sprocket. I decided not to having seen videos of how chain sits in situ and guides are bolted down. The tensioner is located behind the engine block on the left hand side under the oil temp sensor. I had ordered a tensioner online but alas it was the wrong type, and sent it back. I ended up ordering one from Skoda, due to convenience, at the cost £60, the Skoda dealers literally found the corner from me. Mine wasn’t the latest type but the washer type, with stub at end, it’s supposed to be an upgrade over the originally fitted part. I primed new tensioner in oil and fitted it, I disconnected coil pack feed and cranked engine a few times and then reconnected it and after a fortnight sitting idle I started the car. It fired up with no rattle (for those whose are gonna say that I cranked it and oil pressure must have built, answer is I tried that when I swapped out oil filter and cranked it with ignition disconnected to get oil into filter and when I started the car the rattle was loud as ever), the car idled quietly. Replacing just the tensioner can save a lot of ball ache, it save me swapping out chains sprockets and guides !!! I’ve posted pic of the original tensioner and the wrong one sent out to me. You can see size difference. once complete
  3. Thanks ! It was still a ball ache to actually push it on bracket when I mounted bracket was in situ, took 20 mins of cursing 🤬 lol
  4. I’m such a Narna, lol i found the release tab and the slider slipped back and I tried a different slotting it and it clicked in !!! thanks fir your assistance @Breezy_Pete
  5. The door handle is compatible and it’s the same as the rest of my door handles and it slots in fine and works, but in order to keep it in situ, the end do needs to click behind it but the dashed thing isn’t going in ?
  6. It’s not visible rubbed away however came across this and like you say they both part no’s correspond with each other ? https://nemigaparts.com/cat_spares/etka/volkswagen/po/678/839000/
  7. It’s original to car I’ve looked at the others and they all match. that part no 5N0 839 167 B cross references with my vehicle according to Skoda parts.com the polo Google image was for a 2011/12
  8. Skoda Parts confirm what you said by about caliper bracket part no. My car is a face lift, so it’s correct handle end cap part no that I have and the mounting bracket part no I have is the correctly listed bracket for mine too.
  9. The nearest part no is 5N0 839 167 B, it throws a pic for a VW Polo end cap, identical to mine. Will ETKA show which caliper bracket it would fit to ? I don’t understand why my end cap ain’t fitting the new caliper bracket. The one I have is used across all VAG cars from that era ?
  10. Ahh read post wrong, I’ll send you the handle end cap part no again 5N0 839 163 B is what I can deduce from shining light into it.
  11. Actually Send a pic please of the back bit with hole where the end cap would fit.
  12. Look at pics I've already got that part no, a new one but my end door cap isn’t fitting in it. The main handle fits fine.
  13. History At some point my UK spec left side front passenger door has been replaced with an identical red L4FK red, but I suspect it was sourced from a non Monte Carlo / car without colour coded handle s. I deduced this when My passenger door handle and amend cap came off in my hand and discovered the internal caliper mounting bracket had the rear end piece missing. I thought this was broken hence the handle coming off. I ordered a mounting bracket with same part no 5N0 839 885 G, The new one mirrored the broken one I took off. However after installing the handle mounting caliper, I fitted the door handle but the outer handle end door cap would not mount onto the internal mounting bracket ? it turns out that previous owner had doctored the old bracket; cutting off the rear piece so the original colour coded door handle cap would fit flush, but by doctoring it, the whole mechanism was weak. The part no for my colour coded handle end cap is 5N0 839 163 B. I need to know which caliper mounting bracket is compatible with this particular handle assembly ? My VIN No is TMBFN65J2C3072742 I’ve attached pics my original handle cap. What internal door handle bracket compliments my handle cap 5N0 839 163 B ? im truly stumped because most searches on eBay as well as Skoda parts.com for the door handle mounting bracket depict the same part no that I in fact ordered ?
  14. Thanks, last question I promise lol. i want to be prepped for when I do job, what size or dimension should the wedge be ? and do I slide thin end along the back of the guide between the the timing case comes to maintain tension to keep chain in situ ?
  15. Following on from my last post, I see from videos (albeit they’re full strip downs to change full chain set) that it’s the top timing cover case you removed not rocket cover, Is that correct ? Also when you wedge timing chain, is that 1. the actual chain you wedge, or do you wedge the plastic guide that the chain rests in, against the timing case ? 2. Is that guide visible from removing top timing case cover ?
  16. Thank the first video halfway through depicts the oil filled chain tensioner. So it looks as though I could get away with just removing the top timing chain cover and wedge the chain to keep tension and unscrew old tensioner from rear of timing case/engine and replace it.
  17. thanks for reply, when you removed to top rocker cover 1. did you also remove the timing chain case cover ? Is there a top and bottom separate casing ? Do I only need to take off top cover ? 2. is tensioner accessible from the top of engine or do you have to go underneath?
  18. I’ve ensured the correct filter is on, and as for the time duration of rattle, I actually think its probably more like a second. However, its very discernible compared to the 1.4 TSI CTHE Sharan engine we have; which you can hear a brief half second rattle.
  19. The spring that holds tension loses its tensioning ability as it goes old; there were newer revised tensioners that superseded earlier ones. A new tensioner eliminates the cold start rattle. It worked on my nephews 1.2 TSI Octavia, early 2011 model; when hus mechanic replace his full timing chain set. His car had worn sprockets and chain, because it was making a rattle even after starting and warming up. However after his mechanic complete job it ran silky smooth and silent from start up. just need a how to guide to replace tensioner.
  20. Ho did you replace the tensioner ? can you please guide me through process ? or send a link to a how to guide ? thanks
  21. Hi all fabia Monte Carlo received car with no history, but completed checks using VCDS engine was healthy except 2 sec rattle cold start. I want to change my tensioner because I believe it’s failing to hold tension due to the 2 sec rattle on cold start which immediately ceases and also fails to reoccur when turning on car a second time, or if it’s only been stood a short while. The car makes no noise after initial start all through Rev range and is very responsive despite being high miles approx 144 k mls. When in bought car I did a deep dive using VCDS and could see there were logs for an elongated timing belt in 2015 and a subsequent note about recalibration after timing chain replacement in 2015. The chain kit would have been replaced at an earlier service interval from my frictions from VCDS, and being a Dec 2011 registered car should have the later superseded tensioner and chain kit Skoda allegedly installed in post October / Nov 2011 vehicles. anyway I just want a simple guide to swap out the chain tensioner which I’m led to believe does not require special tools or timing tools to recalibrate, unless I’m mistaken ? regards
  22. Hi all, I made an enquiry to Skoda-parts.com about total shipping costs to Uk. Their response may clear up confusion for many of us on here I was told to send you a more detailed explanation of the UK VAT + the deliveries. If the total value of your order is 135GBP or less (excluding VAT and shipping), no additional taxes will be charged in the UK and the price you pay to us is final as we are VAT registered business in UK. If the value is higher, we will issue an invoice without VAT. In this case, you will be charged a 12GBP administration fee plus local 20% VAT on delivery in the UK. You always know exactly how it's gonna be before placing an order, there is a highlighted note for that matter on checkout page after selecting UK as destination country. Details about the delivery fees can be found by following of this link: https://www.skoda-parts.com/delivery/united-kingdom.html
  23. My vehicles for 2011 Fabia Monte Carlo Hi I want to order a spare flip key with ID Chip in from eBay but unsure whether any will be compatible. I came across this info on web regarding Skoda transponder types https://www.transpondery.com/transponder_catalog/skoda_transponder_catalog.html it states MY 2009 onwards is dealer coded ? Anyone know whether I can order a 3 button flip key with ID48 Type 2 chip ? is it possible to code to car without having to visit dealer ? thanks in advance
