I have an 07 VRS Tdi and the rear suspension seems to have sagged a bit. Its just been for a service and apparently nothing is obviously wrong with the suspension, but it had shredded the inside edges of the rear tyres. The car has done just over 120k miles and the roads around here are pretty bad so would not surprise me if there was some damage. Was just wondering if there was any common faults/failures that might be causing this. Having to put some new rear tyres on, but don't want to just be shredding another set on the inside edge. I don't normally carry much weight in the back either. Its very rare I carry any rear seat passengers and the boot usually only had a carbon fibre bike in the back, which weighs about 8kg

Cost of Diesel makes Tfsi almost as cheap to run
mcreeder replied to mcreeder's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
I dont get much more than 30 out of my 2.0 Focus at the mo, and that only has 130ps, so on official figures the VRS TFSi is more economical than that, so its all a bonus. Also If i get it re-mapped would that not help me drive it more economically which when you consider to and from work is on country A and B roads and you are just sat behind a queue of traffic at between 40 and 60mph, so basically cruising gently in 6th. Then at the weekend find some quieter roads and have some more fun -

I am just thinking I would get more enjoyment out of the TFSi and really that the running costs are not as far off as they used to be with Petrol vs Diesel. I know its gonna be more expensive, but is it enough to worry about -

But then also would the VRS diesel not be better off with V-Power Diesel, and does the extra octane not help fuel econ a bit as well? Also to point out i am looking at this from the point of new cars, so it would be a CR TDi not a PD in the VRS. -
Working out the cost of diesel against the extra mpg of the VRS TDi over the Tfsi, its getting closer to the petrol being cheaper to run. Prices round this was are about 116p for UL and 129p for Diesel. So at the stated combined mpg of 35.8 that is 14.7p a mile in unleaded, and at 49.6 for the TDi that is 11.8p a mile. If the gap between petrol and diesel continues to increase it could mean its cheaper to run, and some would say nicer to drive as well. At those prices and doing around 20,000 miles a year it will only save me £580 a year in fuel and the car is £855 cheaper. Ok so the tax on the petrol car is more, but its still over a year before you start to save money on it. My other question is, these are based on stated mpg figures, I am assuming if you dont drive like an old man and have a slightly heavier right foot, the gap in mpg would decrease? or does a petrol engine suffer even more on fuel for being driven harder?

the new vrs 2.0tdi CR...............
mcreeder replied to woodenspatulas's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
I am assuming this will mean things like the Superchips bluefin will not be compatible yet for the CR engine -

So what is the advantage of the CR over the PD engine, if the performance and economy are the same? -

Is it just me, but the figures for the CR engine (on the skoda UK website) seem to be the same as the PD version, is this correct? -
First Pics of new vRS Common Rail Diesel Engine...
mcreeder replied to rsbspt's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
From what people are saying and how long it normally take for things to go from being announced to being available, then you will need to be waiting 9-18 months til the CR is available. I would say it is very unlikely to just be a phased in replacement to the existing car, most likely, will be available with a facelifted model which will mean new spec and a new price. Lets hope they are not like Ford on this. I asked about the new 2.2TDCi in a Mundano and was told that although it was now available to order, that due to the fact they didn't have enough Alloy to meet demands for the 2.0TDCi engine, then they couldn't even put a time scale on a factory order. To quote the saleman 'if you gave me an order for one today, I wouldn't know what to do with it':thumbdwn: -
I got a Bluefin brouchure throught the other day, and the statement about covering items that would be void of manufactures cover was still in there. Might be worth double checking with them

New Octavia on Vrs on order
mcreeder replied to racing blue vrs's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Anyone got any details on doing the suspension on the VRS Hatch? What options are there? I am assuming there is a thread on this somewhere but I couldnt see it (might have been searching the wrong keywords) -
My mate has used Dent Devil with his MG, he is very fussy with his car, and he is always happy with the results. The roads I drive on, I find the mud tends to cover up the small dents
