Hello
I‘m now on my third Skoda over a period of nearly twenty years.
I happened on my first by accident (fortunately, not the collision kind). Looking for a ‘stop gap’ runabout, I went to see an Astra which I quickly declined; however, up the corner of the ‘Arthur Daley’ lot was a presentable 1995 Felicia 1.3 Estate which looked worth a punt. A few months later I started some work that involved a lengthy commute. The Felicia turned out to be a great little car, went around the clock and I ended up putting 50k on it before someone smacked into it whilst it was parked. I looked around for another Skoda and found a tidy Mk 1 Fabia which did the length and breadth of the country, also going around the clock. I then found my current Skoda: a low mileage Mk 1 Fabia 1.4MPI. It is a tidy car though being a bit long in the tooth it has a few niggles.
I learned car maintenance in my youth – mainly by keeping elderly RWD Ford and BL models out of the breaker’s yard and this has stood me in good stead with classics. The Felicia was fairly familiar under the bonnet; however, like anything ‘modern’ (post 1990 to me!) Fabias with their management systems, etc., are a different animal. However, they have needed little attention and for the occasional repair I have tended to go to an independent garage and have them serviced when an MOT Test was due. Now I am pretty much retired I am looking to some of the minor jobs and maintenance myself and hope I can call here with my queries.
So, if you have got this far thanks for reading!
Old Nicholas
