Hi,
We have a 54 plate Mk2 Octavia estate. Last year on a trip to Devon I accelerated up a hill and after changing down a gear the car produced a huge amount of smoke out the back, the turbo seemed to run away very briefly but this stopped when I put the car back into gear. I stopped immediately and called the RAC..no warning lights and no issues on the diagnostic machine. The mechanic said the oil smelled of Diesel and the level was a bit high. Took the car back home without issue. I took the car into a local garage, couldn’t find any issues with it but did an oil service, the oil level continued to rise, above the max line, back to the garage - DPF regen completed (with oil service), that seemed to have an affect the car drove a lot better. This cycle has continued with the rising oil level and recently the fuel consumption has increased massively, going from getting nearly 450 miles from a tank down to 250/270. Still no warning lights, tests at the garage still saying no issues with the DPF, injectors etc, system cleans all done..the car seems to be running well but clearly something is wrong, it does seem to regen a lot, it does a mix of trips, motorway (25 miles each way) 2/3 times a week and some town work.
Has anyone had anything like this before or any ideas what it might be? (I’m guessing a DPF issue..)
